you have evidence to support this? that i am a reckless driver? i drive with 1 hand 90% of the time. i don't text while driving. don't judge me, you don't know me. i was on the betsy ross bridge, alone, in the middle of the day. cruising in the middle lane at 60. if you consider this reckless, then so is picking up a bottle of water. you should be put in jail for having a drink ithout pulling over
Now you guys are talking about something that is near and dear to me and a subject on which I AM a subject matter expert.
Anything which takes your full attention away from driving is, by definition, distracted driving. That includes replacing the cup of coffee in the cupholder which takes more concentration than reaching for it, changing radio stations, talking with other car occupants, whacking the kids in the back seats - or texting.
The texting issue has just brought distracted driving back to the forefront and you will see stricter laws and awareness campaigns.
While many say "we've been eating, drinking, taking and changing radio stations in our cars for decades without problems," they are really overlooking a few crucial facts:
- We are trying to make our roads safer than ever before - and succeeding
- Roads are more crowded and in greater disrepair - requiring greater vigilance
- In car distractions have increased - cell phones, gps, iPods and the like were nearly unheard of as little as ten years ago. The spouse, kids and the radio were the distractions then.
- Increase in sinle occupant vehicles, giving the "bored" driver more time to text, eat, drink or read the paper while stuck in traffic.
One of the problems with DD accidents is that they often involve a rapidly moving vehicle colliding with a stationary vehicle - increasing the risk and severity of cervical acceleration-deceleration injuries (commonly referred to as whiplash.)
Clearly, the taking photographs of a speedometer by the driver while the vehicle is in motion is distracted driving but I suspect that Pyro is under 25 so he is completely invincible anyway (another problem with DD and texting) and nothing anyone says or does will convince him (and any of the millions of young texters) otherwise - until we start using the Aussie method of driving campaign adverts like the drunk driving ads below that most everyone has seen by now.

Shame on you. Didn't they always teach you to fasten your safety belt before you started the car? Just kidding
#85
I just parked and was getting ready to head out of the car. I usually too busy checking my mirrors, and my surroundings before I drive off therefore never do activities that take my focus away. This is what happens when you work for a utility company and sitting on the safety committee for 3 years. Also, seat belt has already saved my life twice over 7 years ago.

I wear my seatbelt every single time I drive yet I always start the car before I put it on.

I showed this to a friend last halloween who claimed he was "OK to drive home." He watched about half the video, went to the bathroom and puked his guts out and called Sober Ride.
Since then he always comes and goes in a cab.

Hy Opboarding, sorry for Threadjack, but as we dont have the V6 in Germany I´m wondering about the revs limited to 6800rpm on your Pics. As I can remember you drive a V6, is it so that the V6 does not rev as high as the i4?

Advanced
Wow, 34.6 is great out of the V6 on the highway. That's about the best I can get out of our K24. How accurate is the gauge in your 2011 V6? In our 2010 if it displays 35.0 it ends up being about 33 after I hand calculate it.
Do you run 0w-20 engine oil?

Yeah I use 0w-20. I actually changed it right before the drive back. The drive down I only got around 32, but it was also really windy.

I have always generally known that I4s rev higher than V6s and V8s growing up. 4s usually have to rev higher to achieve power vs 6s and 8s make power lower in the rpm. My 2001 ITR revved to 8400 vs my Corvette revved to 5800. Europe cars will have different setups vs the American cars so that could be why you are seeing a difference. IMHO it seems that newer cars are tending to rev higher for the V6s and V8s but I still go on the old school thought of the bigger the motor the shorter the redline. I could be wrong tho!
#93
I've never noticed that before. I guess the v6 only goes to 6800. I dont know why though, maybe someone else will chime in.
I think the MID is going to be more accurate than a hand calc after you fill up at the station. At the station 1 gallon wont be exactly 1 gallon because of the tolerances allowed. They are going to sell the least amount possible to still legally be called 1 gallon. That is my theory why the MID and calc are always so different. My MID and hand calculations are usually around 1 mpg off from each other.

Took some very concentrated driving and what was really funny is watching people get pissed off and pass me really fast only to have me catch up to them at every light. Going fast actually doesn't get you there faster. This is the best I've gotten since I've owned this car.

Friend of mine gave it to me and she told me it would keep my car from being stolen. It's main purpose seems to be to get dust off from under the speedometer as he slides back and forth around corners, I try to get him to fling into the map pocket on the door from time to time. lol

36psi warm tires, 1 passanger, luggage in the trunk:
started off good at @65mph
then went up to @70
contiued on @70 and went down to like 35mpg before my first destination.
At the end of my 1200 round trip vaction it averaged 32mpg (including city destination driving). It is decent enough mpg and am happy enough with it since I do have heavy 20" wheels and BBK.

I'm also enjoying the mpg boost coming from a suv/crossover.
Wagon with 1500 miles on the odo with and Indianapolis to Chicago round trip + some Chicago city driving for a total of 394 miles. Pleased with the results.
33.5mpg on the mid and 32.7 actual calculated.

80 MPG with intercooler
I have a intercooler hooked up so it is getting really dense cold air into the engine, I can run a really lean fuel mixture with the flashpro, it might be a little to lean because my tail pipes are turnning almost white inside instead of brown, this is after a drive to and from work in rush hour stop and go traffic it gets well over 100 MPG at freeway speeds, I'm a little down on power maybe 20%, I'll keep racking up the miles try to get som steady spees so I can be over 100mpg.

I live in Jersey which is hella flat to begin with and the trip to my cousin's house down the shore is pretty much all roads with speed limits of 50, so cruising at about 55 and anticipating every light, traffic situation etc made it all work out. Also starting up extremely gradually was the hardest thing to do. Usually I'm around 27-32 during normal back and forth to work stuff. I worked very hard on that tank. lol And agreed, suck it Prius.

Today's numbers are much more realistic and any normal driver should be able to match the EPA numbers.
During normal driving, the TSX will average 25+mpg in mixed driving. I've been averaging a hair under 28mpg since I bought my car 30k miles ago - not shabby at all.

I was at it again, but there is no way I can keep this up for the amount of miles I did the first time. But still after having an ILX hybrid Loaner and being able to get 51 MPG out of that, I have to say it's very entertaining to drive a hybrid. I felt really involved even though I didn't really like the car very much. Has the loudest rear suspension I've ever heard in a car, it's like there is nothing between the tires and you. But I thought how close can I get with the TSX...

wow 40 MPG. I've never seen that on mine... highest i have ever gotten is 33. It'll never pass 33 for some reason.

....how? did you just sit in 1st gear at 7000rpm and go for like an hour?
My lowest I have ever seen is like 16.5/17 MPG.

The biggest key to high MPG is to anticipate the next thing coming, so if you see a light, stay in 6th gear as long as you can, the fuel is cut off until you get down around 900 RPM or so RPM, you can feel when the injectors come back on, so basically the entire time you are slowing down from speed in 6th you are using no fuel, but yet covering miles, it's actually a better practice than putting it in neutral because you will have to hit the brake anyhow, and the engine in 6th will slow you down gradually, while putting it in neutral uses fuel to hold idle speed. Also using the Instant MPG, you can see when the timing advances itself under really weird conditions. You would think it should be using more fuel but yet you see the instant go higher because the engine is running really lean at certain rpm's. and shift up before 1,400 RPM every time. Pisses people off but that's why I'm in the left lane. But as soon as I posted this I went for the next drive and drove it like normal. Gas is cheap at the moment. I'm gonna enjoy it.

I'm stuck with the craptasticly crap 5AT though
But what is your highway only MPG? I did a 400 mile road trip in my TSX a few weeks ago and only averaged 33 MPG the whole way... I had the cruise set on 75 MPH most of the way.

VTEC just kicked in, yo!
iCrap cruising at 75 mph and achieving 33 MPG is pretty normal. Trying doing 65mph next time. You'll likely see it go up to 35 or so. You likely never go above 33 because of that
And briq you are THE king of (high) mpg!

Intermediate
Sept 2013 about a month after I bought my 2010 V6 I drove from Winnipeg down to Pierce, NE for the Lambrecht Chevrolet auction. After the last day of the auction I went to Sioux City IO for the night, filled up in the AM, drove back to Winnipeg, 900+km, got indicated 7.2L/100km on the display, 70 mph on the interstate. Works out to 33.77 mpg. I was pretty impressed for the V6 to do that. Matches my previous 2004 6MT TSX on the highway. My total fuel use since purchase is 9.8L/100km combined, 24.81 mpg (US gallon).
