Insurance after mods and paranoia
Hey guys,
I was just curious to know, how many of you call up your insurance again to update them on your new parts that you might've installed.
I got did my insurance under my dad's name (cheaper) but that was when it was stock. Now I've done mods like SRI, coilovers and hopefully wheels soon. I'm not sure how much insurance would go up by but yeah, does anyone update their insurance?
Also, for those who have bought rims, are you guys paranoid/scared of your rims/tyres getting slashed/scratched by haters? I'm scared to get wheels because I'm paranoid some random jealous guy will scratch them or am I just overthinking things?

It will go up. If you report lol. But if you don't tell them and you get into an accident or it gets stolen the only money you would get is the value of the car. My boy put 10k+ into his civic coupe and some fucks stole it and took it for a joyride. Car was totaled and insurance only gave him the cost of the car.

:S That's what I'm scared of... I can't tell the future and predict what will and won't happen.. but then I R 2 POOR 4 EXTRA COSTS OF INSURANCE... Guess I'll go through it with my parents lol. Probably best to at least tell them if I get wheels.. I don't want to waste a few grand on nothing!
Would you update yours?

I've never scene anyone rims/ tires get scratched/ slashed before for jealousy. They'd probably just key your car or break a window before messing with your wheels...
Also, if you don't live in a really bad community I doubt your car is gonna bet messed with. I felt the same way parking my new TSX in my high school parking lot, nothing happened (except every one gave me comments on my new car).

Car thieves go wherever, so you can't base it off area.
Not sure if I would update tbh lol. Depends what I would do to the car I guess. Some insurance companies have special insurance for modified cars me thinks. Same category as vintage or historical cars. Either way you gotta pay to play.

^ LOL Classic picture.
I am also afraid of parking my car in my highschool parking lot. I always park it where the cameras can see it and a spot the campus security drives by frequently...can never be too safe.

to be honest steve, you run a risk of everyside when you start modding cars. but hey, its a hobby so what can you do about it...
anyways, i don't think a lot of people actually report to their insurance? i would think that the extra fees will add up costing more than the parts for the car

Stealing wheels is different form scratching them... Yes, where ever you live though people are gonna steal rims.
However I still wouldn't report it, like ed_423 said the fees might cost more than the value of the parts.

I'd only notify insurance if it was an extremely rare car. I live in a pretty good neighborhood, but still always park near light, in ear/eye shot of my office window. Never can be too safe. People will steal a K-car if its catches their eye.
