How do you feel about door dings?

Since I know most will have the same feelings/reactions as getting rock chips, I can say I cannot stand door dings and abosolutely will not tolerate them. A huge part of that is due to the neglect of other people who could care less about dinging other cars when parked next to one. I've learned to live with rock chips and dismiss them as simply a small consequence of living in a concrete jungle. Door dings I cannot tolerate. I have a minty 97 Jetta w/ one ding and thats it. None of my other cars have them **knocks on wood**. Yeah, I know. Cool story right? But just curious how you all deal with them? I see new expensive cars on my daily commute riddled with them and just baffled by how they can accept them.

^^^^^^^^^^agreed...cant deal since someone did it without regard.

my 98 jeep recently got one.....i brought it to the PDR I know and he fixed it right then.

if someone parks to close or over the line I usually empty my throat of any phlem all over the door handle or side window. something they cannot over look so that maybe next time they will give a shit/

also the reason I have always had 2 cars.....one DD and one nice one. if I going to the supermarket I take the DD.

I agree it's annoying people neglect and are not courteous enough to take caution when opening their doors. I already have 2 door dings on my beautiful TSX . I usually park further away and always take the end (curb) spaces. If not, I survey all the possible spots for parking and then choose the "safest" one. It's kinda annoying but it's seems to work "knock on wood."

I can't stand door dings, I park far away from people and I look for larger spots to avoid careless people. I especially avoid parking next to lifted trucks because a lot of them don't give a fuck when they swing their door open.

A fat native women swung her door open and hit my first car, a 95 ealge talon esi, and I swear I saw red and wanted to strangle her. I got out and confronted her and she brushed it off saying my car is old who gives a fuck. Bitch never apologized or anything.

i hate door dings. my TL has ZERO dings (now, since the PDR make over). the MDX...gawd i think i counted at least 2-3 subtle dings in EACH door. the baffling thing is that i dont' park near people. so i'm guessing they were either already on the car when i bought it and i'm NOW just seeing them, or they have been acquired over the last 2 yrs of ownership randomly. stupid people. and for those that think body side molding does anything...all of my dings would be above or below that hideous thing. it always seems that when we try really hard to take care of our stuff, that some inconsiderate a$$hat does something stupid to damage it.

these are by far WORSE than rock chips. i can live with rock chips (part of the hazards of driving). granted dings can be categorized that way...but this is solely due to negligence of the person swinging their door open. :anoyed:

When I first got my car 5 years ago (Im talking days since purchasing it)..Some lady in a Lexus RX straight dinged my drivers side, while i was in the grocery. Oh she also left her shopping kart right behind my car too ( as if hurry to flee the scene?)

Who knows anyways, It was so bad, it made a long vertical indent starting from the door handle to the bottom of the car. 1000+ to fix, because of the weird angle of the ding, and they had to take my whole door apart.

I despise door dings, probably because I lived with one for 2+ years. I always parked my car in the boonies, and one time I was in and out of Target in 10 minutes, and came out to this dent, dimple, whatever you want to call it:

If there's anything worse than someone being negligent or inconsiderate, it's someone being malicious. I don't think anyone else could've gone in and out of Target and parked next to my car and accidentally dented it in the span of 10 minutes.

Body shop told me it would be $1K to fix since it was too deep for PDR and the entire door would have to be resprayed. I didn't fix it and had to live with it. Luckily the dealer didn't charge me extra when the lease was over.

I have a 2010 and no door dings.

But it has had a combined $20k in damage to the front and rear, so win some/lose some.

I still park away from other vehicles when possible but the two accidents humbled me to an extent.

College, can't park anywhere but garages. Only one door ding so far. I try and park next to pilings whenever possible.

I have a strict set of parking rules that drives my family nuts. The link kind of summarizes things pretty well and even has pictures: http://www.ranieldiaz.com/2010/09/pa...door-ding.html

So far no door dings. I do have a couple of 'lip kissers' on the front where some moron kisses the pointing part of my TLs nose.

I have now adjusted things so there is almost always a forward guard: light pole, curb, or something in front. If that's not possible I don't squeeze into the full forward portion of the space in case some moron (usually driving a large truck or a Saturn) parks infront of me.

Went to an amusement theme park and we were directed were to park. I was pretty concerned at first but I cant stress out on things I can't control. Thank goodness the fella to my right was a dolt and parked at a greater angle leaving a ton of room to my right. The car on the left was a Fiat 500.

@MrOtocinclus

I had a similar experience. In and out for 10 mins came back with similar looking dings but mine was much worse..

The @#$@#$ dings were along the bottom crease of the door so in essence I got 2 dings for the price of 1

Sometimes I take 2 parking spots to avoid people park to close to me and live dents on my car.

I hate door dings, I feel like melting face when someone parks really close to me even when I park 5 space away from everyone else. Unfortunately I have a ding on the back bumber near the exhaust, I have a feeling someone was swinging their bag, maybe grocery bag around and hit my bumber. Its unnoticeable unless you get very close but the fact that I know its there botters me.
