Well, Acura's press release is very misleading. chibianh isn't the first person I've seen that thinks those numbers are all 09's.

They could have easily said, "led by the all-new 2009, the TSX posted...."

Its just a press release, people can read whatever they want into it. FWIW the TSX sold ~2600 in April and this included one week of '09 sales. Assuming that '08 continue to run down as the '09s accelerate, maybe 1000-1500 were '08s in May? Still a strong showing.

There you have it folks. Though I've yet to see another 09 TSX besides mine around here.
Let's see the whole quote. You paraphrase some figures and they lost their meaning. No offense, of course.

So strong are TSX sales that for the first time ever, it topped the monthly sales of TL and MDX. Acura sales for May were 14,893 units, down 9.9 percent based on Daily Selling Rate* while year-to-date sales totaled 65,458 units, down 13.8 percent compared to 2007.

... Eclipsing the previous best-ever TSX monthly sales record by 16.7 percent and shattering the previous May total by 53.7 percent, the totally redesigned 2009 TSX is proving popular right off the start....

*The daily selling rate is calculated with 27 selling days for May 2008 versus 26 selling days for May 2007. Year-to-date sales based on 129 days for 2008 versus 127 days for 2007.
http://www.hondanews.com/categories/1097/releases/4529

So the new model is selling strong, even compared to a similar period in 2006 (when, I presume the 2006 MY TSX was not "new, improved"), but Acura sales overall are down. Not making a point, just clarifying the data.

In my determining a navi equipped TSX with equally equpped iS250, there is a $5,000 price discrepancy, $3,000 if you factor in the engine. The Lexus options category is a mile long list, so finding your perfect car, or base model car will be very difficult to find. Insurance premiums on the TSX are 25% lower than an iS250 to boot (using Calif ins rates). Below are comparisons from Edmunds.com (note the iS250 pricing does not include the Navi equipped model). IMO, its like trying to compare Ford vs Chevy.....each one is slightly different and your own personality will take into account which brand you prefer. I believe Honda/Acura offers better value than Toyota/Lexus, but I believe Toyota/Lexus offers more spiffs on their cars (at an additional cost), and I believe both are very good quality vehicles....pick your candy!

There are other things like LED tail lamps , Front/Rear Knee airbags, airbags, 8 way passenger powrer seat along with push button start. TSX is mass produced Honda Accord for EU. Not a special platform like IS. V6 engine/rear wheel drive add weight that u have to shed weight in other areas to get desired fuel economy that makes car expensive. Techically IS is more sophisticated than TSX.

Of course the IS is based in the GS so its not entirely a new chassis, but it's nice to have it's lineage pulled from the higher model. Interestingly, although it's got those extra knee bags, it still only pulls four stars for driver and passenger. The TSX in the same test will get five....

Or as Dom pointed out, they word it so veil the fact that those numbers might be both outgoing 2008s and incoming 2009s. Of COURSE they're strong, as people are buying up the remaining stock of the last model year ... or so the myth goes.

I believe it said "the all-new 2009 Acura TSX posted its best month in the model's history with 4,564 units sold- topping the previous mark of 3,911 set in April of 2006."

maybe you just have to admit that the new TSX is selling well

But again like you guys have mentioned maybe it was a play on words on Acura's part, could be misleading but nonetheless it's selling well

I really don't care either way. It is worded to indicate that the NEW TSX sold 4,564 units in May selling period. But I kinda wonder why they would exclude outgoing 2008 MY sales when referring to "TSX sales" could look so much sweeter with them included.

It's a press release. Get over it.

We do not have any idea how well the 09 TSX is selling, simply because AHC did not provide a split of 08 & 09 MY sales. Regardless, based on the three reader letters printed in the latest issue of Automobile magazine, the only purchasers of the 2009 TSX will be those who don't read (Automobile magazine).

Hi guys, I just went to the dealership that confirmed to me that the TSX is indeed coming out with a V6 very soon (late this fall or early spring 2009) and they have 5 TSX in the lot with the SOLD sign hanging from the mirror and only 1 is not sold!! Its a smaller market but these guys can't keep them on the lot...in Northern On...

I still haven't heard anything about a V-6 other than hints dropped two years ago. It would be interesting to see it in the first quarter of 09 since this model year is essentially 18 months long. Interesting.....

Colin...I knew that might get your interest. I try to be very careful before making such claims online and trust me when i say that the sales manager didn't hesitate in mentioning the V6 at all. In fact, he seem to indicate that the V6 would likely arrive even before the diesel. It does make sense the more I think about it because unlike the previous years when an A-spec package was available on the TSX, this year, they don't offer an A-Spec but rather an Aero kit which goes along what the sales manager indicated that the V6 would be a Type-S so it would not make sense to have an A-Spec and a Type-S. Now he was also fairly confident that SH-AWD would also not be available on this V6 but I am not sure what pricing would be. He did indicate that the V6 would not be as powerful as the TL, more along the lines of the Accord...

(includes flaps, locks, and cargo tray)

Glad to hear this was a sweet deal.

Santa Monica Acura. I had to bring in my written, competitive quote. Getting one was simple tho---just emailed all the Acura dealers in my area asking for a quote. Then, I just let them beat each other.

Smokey:

I got mine from Nielo Acura in Sacramento. Ask for Gary Pope, he is the internet salesman and is really easy to work with. I tried dealing with the Bay Area dealers IE Concord Acura (dont go there unless you want plastic trims on doors and fenders..installed on all their cars) and Fairfield Acura who had no stock inventory what so ever.!
