Hey guys

First time poster, found this site by chance cuz yahoo answers couldn't give me any advice i was looking for.

Well anyways, my dad has this new 2009 TSX, well not that new its a little over a year and half old, with 30,102 miles (exact), i believe he bought it in Jun of 08. inline 4 btw

He left for China 3 weeks ago for a business trip and not coming back for a while, so this car has just been sitting in the garage. He told me that i could drive it, but i needed to service it first cuz it was overdue.

So I called Acura about the warranty this car still had, they told me to bring in the car, they checked it out and gave me a list of things I need to replace new ATransmission oil/oil filter, air/cab filter, PCV valve, fuel filter, breather filter, coolant, and maybe concentrated fuel injector cleaner. No problem right? Well, Acura said the only thing they'll cover is the engine flush/ATfluid/oil filter/change. Everything else i would have pay, which comes to about $320..? Does this sound right? I mean what the heck is PCV valve? Also, is 30,000miles a lot for this car, i mean its a honda and i rarely hear honda cars getting a fuel injector cleaner at 30K?

hope i can get answers

I dont live in the states and I just go by the service minder light so I probably wont be of much help....I know someone here will chime in though. Good for you for bein cautious about the dealership though...the bad ones will really try and squeeze whatever money they can get from you.

Im a big mma fan too did you see strike force last night?

^Canadian owner here also. Here's the FAQ link for maintenance:

https://acurazine.com/forums/tsx-frequently-asked-questions-125/faq-maintenance-660409/

In general, oil change every 5K miles, air and pollen filter every 15K miles, Acura only recommend AT fluid change every 60K miles and coolant every 120K miles then every 60K miles thereafter.

Assuming your father did all the previous maintenance, just check your Maintenance Minder on the dash and see what it said, (A1, B1 etc) and then look at the owner's manual (pg 417 I believe) and see what is required. Looks like the dealer is trying to put on a bunch of unnecessary stuff there.

PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve, it is a one way valve that assists with the continual evacuation of gases from inside an engne's crankcase.

Not sure about TSX, but in general, the valve is replace every 45K-50K miles. Fuel filter follows the same general rule. Bear in mind, my previous car was a Civic Si and I never changed either of those for 250,000 miles.

Do our cars even have a replaceable fuel filter that's not part of the fuel pump assembly in the tank?

So do like Tech says and read what's recommended in the service manual that came with the car in the glovebox. Some dealers will go so far as to tell you to ignore the MM and service your oil, etc, based on *their* schedules in their little service packages.

FWIW, Service/Parts generates the lion's share of revenues in a dealership. Starting to get the picture? =)
