Front license plate relocated

I have moved my front license plate from the bumper to the lower grill. The plate is too tall, so I took my plate to a sheet metal shop and had them shear off 1/4" from the top and bottom ($5). I removed the OEM mounting bracket, and it happens to have two bolts mounted in the grill. I bought a universal license plate mount bracket made by Bell ($3 at Walmart), shaved off 1/4" on the top and bottom, purchased a couple #10 1" bolts, and mounted it. I then trimmed the flash on the bumper mounting holes and put in two small black plastic plugs (autozone - $1) 10 minutes, $10. What do you think?

Looks much better. You know what looks even better is removing it altogether, which I did. Front license plates are required in Illinois/Chicago but I've been running without one for the last 10 years now without any issues.

I agree about running without, however, I am in a more rural area of MN and we have a couple of Barney Fife's. Been pulled over twice, given warnings twice. You have to make an appointment to show them it is attached. MN has increased the fee to $215!!!!

A minor concern in putting the plate where I did could be overheating if you live in a hot climate with lots of stop and go traffic, but even then, not much more surface area is taken from what the OEM mount does. Nothing factual, but I would think I have reduced the drag coefficient as well?

Here is a larger pic of the frontal:

I am thinking about doing the same thing, but I have the aero bumper, and I can fit it there without cutting anything.

Lol @ drag coefficient reduction. Probably saved you 0.0001 mpg, but hey every mile counts these days. Close up it looks real good, but from far away it looks like a baby whose front teeth are growing in. It is probably because of the contrast between the white plate and the dark grill.

Looks better.

So glad we're not required to have a front plate here in NC.
