daytime running lights

I am a little unclear on the daytime running lights. Are the daytime running lights always on while you are driving even in daytime sunny weather? Does it appear like your regular headlights were left on or do they look different? Also do they automatically go off or do you have to remember to turn them off? Living in my southern part of the US, I just can't imagine your headlights being left on a clear sunny day. Where I live you only have headlights on doing bad weather, cloudy days, look out for highway patrolman signal or for funerals.

Yes, they are on all the time, even in the bright. That is exactly the point of daytime running lights. It's not the headlights but the high beams running at half voltage.

For whatever reason, Americans are resistant to this technology. It does not affect you as the driver in the least bit but it makes it much easier for other cars to see you. It is a safety feature for your own benefit.

+1 Great safety feature IMHO. I installed aftermarket DRL's from webelectric that light up the front ambers. Nice look as well.

i saw these DRL's on the RDX loaner I had when I brought in my 2004 TSX in for service yesterday. i was like can i turn these DRL's off? nope, nada. i'm not used to it cause all of the cars i've driven all don't have this feature.

I don't understand why any driver would care (negatively) that they have DRLs. It's a basic safety feature that the driver can't even see, so what's the big deal?
