CD-Rs and CD Changer '09
I have successfully found a formula that works for burning CD-Rs for playback. I have only tried the on the 09. I am using Windows Vista natively to burn my discs. I was burning using the "Live Files System Format" which seems to be the default in Vista. I changed the format to "Mastered Format" and ever since then I have not had a problem with any discs. Here is the help on how to change the format.
1. Insert a writeable CD or DVD into your computer's CD or DVD recorder.
2. In the dialog box that appears, click Burn files to data disc.
3. In the Burn a Disc dialog box, type a name for this disc, and then click Show formatting options.
4. Click Mastered, and then click Next.
5. An empty disc folder opens.
6. Open the folder that contains the files you want to burn, and then drag the files into the empty disc folder.
7. On the toolbar, click Burn to disc.
8. The selected files are copied to the disc. When the disc burning is complete, the disc burner tray will open and you can remove the disc. You can now use the disc in another computer or media device. This type of disc does not need to be closed.
The CD changer only plays WMA and MP3 files. No ACC, DRM or not, from iTunes.
How ever the ipod interface allows for playing DRM ACC files not problems there. Played Audibooks also. The iPod interface is the best. I would recommend getting an older model nano like 4GB and use it instead of the USB stick. Better to add, remove and organize files there than a straight USB.

Only the newer ipods are compatible with the 09 TSX.

That's just not true. I have a 1st gen ipod nano (4gb) as well as an ipod touch (16 gb) and both work perfectly with the 09 TSX. In fact the nano even displays a little Acura symbol on the screen when its connected, pretty cool little detail.
And I agree with the OP, I leave the old nano in the car and have it set to sync with my best playlists. Just manage everything in itunes and easily update both ipods.

Sorry for sounding a bit dumb but I will ask anyway....One does not need an I-pod to get the USB feature correct? I will be getting a Samsu*g mp3 player soon that has USB connectivity, that should still work right?!

BTW...not sure what seems to be the problem withthe CD-R's as I have a 2006 and have lsiten to nothing but burned CDs and never had any problems whatsoever...could this be because Canadian versions of the sound system are different...??

Have you had a chance to try the Zune yet? I hate iPods so if a Zune works well with the TSX I'd consider purchasing one.

Make a hole, coming thru!
Not that this is a solution, but if an MP3 player didn't work with the USB port, there's always that AUX port. Does the '09 armrest/console have a pass-through hole for cords like the 1GEN? (That allows putting the player in reach.)

I found that a flash drive will work with the system. So, it appears that the simplest solution to operating without an iPod is to burn your toonz to a USB flash drive.

Choice is good (anyone remember "Think different"?). When the market is "iPod, and all the other stuff," choice is stifled.

Try and find a used one on craigslist or something to just load up with songs and leave in the center console. I got a cheap ipod video off craigslist that was all scratched up but still does the job. You can even buy one that has a low battery life since it will always be charging in the car

And yes, it's not so much the iPod that I dislike. It's the fact that it's made by Apple and that they remind me of all the scuz bucket spoiled brat kids at college that I had to put up with in my classes.

1) Requires a personal computer to download files to
2) Audio fidelity is much poorer than CD's and DVD's
Actually, I don't "hate" the IPOD, I just don't care for or need it.

Yeah I never cared for the ipod, and then I got one. I love these things, and while I've got an 08 and don't have OEM connectivity I installed an iPod kit so I can get track info displayed and use steering wheel controls, which rocks.
I had a Zune but sold it because only the ipod is supported with the headunit integration kits..otherwise the Zune is cheaper and imho works just as well.
