Question Can I get away with this?

So I leased a new TSX on Thursday evening, and was kinda rushed into everything. I was going to put $2,000 down that night, but ended up putting down $1,500 with the agreement to come back the next day and give the extra $500 when I came in to finalize my lease, and wait for my credit to be approved. So, I come in the next day, sign all the paperwork and lease documents stating I put $2,000 down(which is due AT LEASE SIGNING), but they never asked that night, and I "forgot" about it. Apparently they called tonight and left a message on my VoiceMail saying they want me to come in and drop off the $500, and I'm wondering if I even have to pay them at this point? Any advice/lawyers out there? I don't want my credit to get messed up, but it's all in writing that I put down $2,000...their mistake or what?

Gratzi,
J

You signed a legal document stating you were going to put $2k down. You legally have to pay them.

This shouldn't be a question in the first place. You promised to put $2,000 down, pay it, end of story.

Enjoy your ride, what colour and (Base/Tech), (I4/V6), (6MT/5AT) did you get?

they will ask to show that you paid and ask for a receipt and will have to show you paid the whole 2000.

You don't have a leg to stand on. They will repo that car and screw up your credit even if you make the payments.

All contracts like this and for buying a home, all have a line in it about mistakes on the paper work. It says that you will need to make good even if they make a mistake on the paperwork.

They are not changing the terms, they are enforcing the intent of the original contract.

Strangely enuff

Something similar happened to a friend of mine at a car dealer about 2 years ago, only it was a thousand dollars.

My friend said "screw them, lets see what happens"

guess what?

Nothing ever happened.....

Tempting Karma? You have to pick your price.....

This is just me, but if i did something like that, I would not go brag about it on a public forum that gets indexed by Google. It's not everyday that someone promises to pay an exact amount like $2K and only ends up paying 75% of it. Easy enough to identify. Plus, when the lawyers come knocking, I don't think Acurazine can refuse to provide your personal info.

On the other hand, I guess I *would* brag about it if I used a fake email address and spoofed my IP or used a net cafe or something.

I feel like for 500 bucks, this is to much trouble for both parties to be honest. I wonder if the dealer finds it fit to go after 500 bucks with lawyers whose legal fees probably would cost them more in the long run. Not to justify the actions of Mr. CocaineWhiteCL, who is probably going to be blacklist by all the Acura dealers in the area, if such exist. lol
P.S Don't you have to return your car to the same dealer after your lease expires? If its true how awkward will that be lol

Don't be surprised if they send you an invoice for the $500 balance. They do have the right to send it to collections which will affect your credit if it continues to go unpaid. They won't have to hire lawyer to go after you, you'll just get hounded by the collection agency. $500 really isn't worth it.

You can return a lease to any Acura dealer, even a Honda dealer.

Just pay the $500, it's the right thing to do.

You may be able to get away with it now, but like DerwoodEE said, they can send it for collection, (they'll only get $0.50 on the dollar), but your credit rating would be affected.

Lmao... You're just being a straight up d!ck.

If it's a down payment then you'll get it back at the end of your lease.

Karma is a real bitch and trust me you're not going to want to meet her.

Do right the thing cheapoo . Pay up, and move on. If you need the $500 that bad you should've looked into getting a civic or another car that's less expensive.
