Cabin Filter / Recirculation Door Area White Insulation Batting?

I was changing out my cabin filter due to a mouse nest and odor. As I took the cabin filter out, I noticed that there was white insulation batting above the cabin filter area where the recirculation door is. There is a plastic support grid above the filter where the insulation batting was sitting. I removed all of that insulation because of the mice. I didn't take any pics since everything was gross.

Can someone check to see if their 2nd Gen has this insulation batting? I can't remember if this was always there or if it was brought in by the mice. I can't even find the part online either which means it may be a part of the blower subassembly (79305-TL1-G01) that I rather not buy just for insulation. I doubt it will harm anything if I run the HVAC without that insulation if it was meant to be there.
