besides a BBK, is there any way to firm up the brake pedal?

a5 about 35K with 50% pads still left, I installed new drilled/slotted rotors & red stuff pads, new brake fluid swap and it made zero difference - I've considered braided ss brake lines, but I hear you'll only see a difference if you're really hard on brakes which I'm not. I'm comparing the TSX brakes to my wife's 10 A5 - brakes are excellent on it....puts the TSX to shame.

has anyone installed ss brake lines and noticed a difference?

ss lines will firm up pedal feel a bit. Rubbrer lines have some swell

To change the pedal feel, you will need to switch to stainless steel brake lines or swap out the master cylinder. Otherwise, the changes you are making will have little impact on pedal feel, though they all have an impact on stopping distances and brake fade.

SS brake lines will firmen up the pedal and will help improve the pedal feel but nothing will compare to a Big Brake Kit upgrade. If you want a BBK on a budget I would consider our XLR8 BBK by STOPTECH.

That should fall under the common sense category. If you're getting a BBK you probably already know the thousands it costs comes with associated supporting mods

Fairly common complaint of the 2nd gen TSX I think; my pedal (010) is kind of squishy too. They work OK, so I say just get used to it. Or not. Opposite of the old cliché: "How fast can I go?" "How much money you got?". "How well can I stop?" "How much money you got?".

Question, what is the size rim needed to squeeze that kit on? 18 x8 with an X offset, or can you get away with a 17 x 8 with an x offset?

BBKs usually take some experimentation and measurements, esp the larger ones. Offset and spoke design are usually the biggest issues, but they at least can be fixed with spacers, in most cases at least. One way to get a good idea for the general fit is to look at other cars with BBKs and see what sort of spokes typically fit over the largest brakes. There are lots of great 17" rims with a more "open" spoke design that will fit over most BBKs, ie. outward curving spokes or the so-called concave look that so many desire.

drilled and slotted rotors really dont have an impact on the street.
more for aesthetics.

drilled rotors have a tendency to crack because you're drilling holes in close proximity of each other, taking away surface material.

I run a slotted rotor purely for aesthetics. it just looks fucking cool.

Fresh fluid and SS brake lines will firm up the brake pedal.

Harder compound brake pads will make the most difference.

he gets it.

i race autocross and still would use a blank rotor over a drilled.

better than using them on a track!.....and as another poster said, I just have them for the aesthetics

I'm not worried at all about them cracking....drilled rotors are standard equipment on a lot of cars these days.

what are you proving? I know they can crack, but I'm very easy on brakes.....anyway.....off the top of my head....mercedes, porsche, C6, etc etc

I also realize some are actually cast with the holes in them rather than drilled....

now go and google porsche cracked rotors and post pics here if that'll make you feel better....

not even about cracking, its about reduced surface area for braking. slotted is barely any better than drilled when it comes to that. a large blank rotor with a ceramic pad will outdo any other pad on a drilled rotor.

think about it, pad makes friction with rotor surface, the less contact area, the less friction/speed reduction
