back-up camera is aimed to low?
Anyone else think the back-up camera is aimed to low on the tech package?
I have had several cars with camera's but this one seems to show more street then anything else, maybe mine is aimed wrong?

The camera is aimed so you can see your bumper and things that are a short distance behind you. It makes backing up against a wall or in front of a poll a lot easier. Also, ones with kids, it helps seeing them and their toys when you are backing out if the garage.

Maybe you can adjust it? I'm curious what it looks like on the nav screen, could a 2nd gen TSX owner with tech package post pic of their screen with the backup cam on?
Here is mine on my 05 TSX with Pioneer Avic Z3 navi with an aftermarket backup cam. Its angled so it shows both lower bottom of the rear bumper and higher up behind the car.

i think the 2nd gen back up camera is aimed perfect. Works great for backing up in my parking garage - it shows the edge of my bumper so i know how far back to go. The lens is wide angle so if im backing out blind i can see left and right of the possible oncoming cars. If i wanted to see cars directly behind me, I would just turn my head and look.

The backup camera on my Odyssey is aimed slightly higher and you can still see the bumber fine yet you don't feel like you strain as much to see oncoming cars because they are closer to the center of the field of vision. You would agree that it could be better if you spent time with both.

The Prius is about the same hight from the ground. And yes you can see the kiddies laying down behind your bumper if needed.

Yes but my wife has a Prius and with that one I can see the bumper and all the way down the block. It is more of a fish eye lens and better color separation at night. Acura did not think this one out, I can see a Smurf riding an Chipmunk right behind me but not a Mach truck 20' away.

TSX's Backup Camera
Prius' Backup Camera
The color looks a little better in the Acura and you can see a good 3-4 car lengths. Anything further, use the good old fashion turn around and look. You wouldn't put all your trust in a backup camera, would you?

Its aimed perfectly. However because its a wide angle lens, the corners arent very accurate in terms that you cant really gauge distances with it. But it works. I cant live without it. I will admit that the color 'correctness' of it sucks. But it works great.
If you got a problem have the dealer look at it.

I see these two shots as a big difference, the Prius is better to see if something changed behind you as you were backing up, like a car coming if you are leaving your driveway or a parking spot not just to see a bumper of the car you are backing up to.
But the Pruis is like driving a blender and is very boring the TSX is a much better car.

The mirror has a relatively narrow field of view and when your back window is covered by rain drops or whatever it's nice to have a backup camera that can show you more than what is within four feet of your bumper.

I don't know. I think if the silver Toyota was out of the picture, you'd see just about as far down the road in the TSX pic as in the Prius picture.

No, in the TSX you can see the horizon approaching the very top of the screen. In the Prius image the horizon is about a centemeter below the top of the screen.

More street as in, looking straight down at the street but less horizon and down the street perspective. After owning a verity of cars with camera's you will start to see the nuanced differences.

i understand what you're trying to say now. I have seen a variety of cameras and there is always a trade off between field of view and the amount of 'fisheye' effect. I'm sure there are pros and cons to everything, but I think yours is aimed as Acura intended.

I just nail the gas and use the force to remove objects in my way

I had a loaner TL with a backup camera and it was also aimed such that the horizon was about a centimeter below the top of the field of vision. The new TSX's camera puts the horizon nearly flush with the top of the field of vision. I think the way they have aimed the camera might have been a quality oversight because all the evidence is pointing to it having been aimed unintentionaly low.
