Acura Remote Engine Starter

I want to know how good these remote starters are.

Is it true that if you start the engine remotely and once you open the door you need to key-in to start the engine ? It sure makes sense for security/theft reasons but want to confirm this from the people who have this.

Any of you have one ? If so, can you let me know how much did it cost you
for the parts & installation ?

Is it really worth it ??!!

On the ones I've used, you remote start, then stick the key in the ignition switch to the 'on' position to unlock the steering column so you can drive.

Please tell me you don't have a 6MT. We had this nitwit kid with a 94-01 Integra, 5MT, SHAVED door handles, remote start....................left it in gear, gave it to an alignment dude to have it aligned, alignment dude pressed the remote start button instead of the door unlock button....it creeped across the parking lot. rr rr rr rr rr rr rr rr rr rr rr rr rr IN GEAR...and ran into the building...over & over & over until IIRC it smoked the starter solenoid.

^ Dude that's an awesome story, LOL.

I don't have it, but I'm speaking from what I HEARD. The OEM Acura remote start sucks as bad as Ed_423 does. If you're going to get a remote start, I would say get a Viper system! I have one sitting around waiting to be installed...too expensive!

not 6MT

Holy cow...That must be one of a kind of experience.
I guess this really is helpful only during winter.
I was given a price of $480 (parts) or $720 (parts + installation). Can we install these systems ourselves ? Is this a fair price.
So, what do you suggest ?

It's a secret project. Shhhhhhh.

But you can get a Viper system online for about 300?

Installation is a bitch though. Hella expensive. And difficult to do yourself.

I have a Viper 5701 & it works great! The acura oem rs turns the engine off when you open the door so you have to restart it when you get in.

We have a remote starter on our Mazda CX-7, and it's great. Press the remote start to start the car up, then stick your key into the ingnition and switch it on. Only crappy thing is if you forget to turn the key before pressing the brake to put it in gear, the car shuts off.

I inquired about the Acura remote start, but our saleperson told us it wasn't really worth it. He gave me a quote of about $800 installed, which was not worth it... However, I do miss this feature on my car sometimes. Usually on hot days, when my car has been sitting out in the sun (this is what we typically do with our CX-7). Remotely rolling the windows down and opening the sunroof is ok, but is somewhat of a hassle because you have to close everything once you get in the car (rear windows aren't automatic up either).

I have the remote start on my 2010 V6 Tech. I actually had the dealership throw it in for free when I bought the vehicle.

It's very useful on very warm/very cold days. I don't think I will buy another vehicle without one. It's got a really good range. I can start my car which is about 150 feet away through leaded walls at work. Once I get to my car, I have to unlock using the remote start fob (the fob with the key does not work when remote start is activated). The engine actually turns off when you unlock the vehicle. You then have to start the engine again, which sucks. I will always have the dealership throw in the remote start when I buy. The car will get the cabin to cool down or warm up to 22C and turn on the rear defroster when you activate the remote start.

Hope this helps!

Acura remote starter systems are priced very expensively compared to other reliable starter systems like Viper Systems. More over Viper systems have better range than Acura ones.
I am still thinking if I should with Acura one's are Viper....

I've read everywhere that Viper's are better than OEM remote starts. Also Viper has that phone app where you can start/unlock/lock/honk your car using your phone from anywhere. I believe Shoofin did that to his wife's new car when she was miles away and she freaked out thinking something was wrong with the new car.

The OEM Acura remote start was the worst decision I have made. It was a waste of money ($700), the range is terrible and that you have to stop the engine with the remote start remote and then unlock the car with the key fob is just unacceptable.
