55 watt bulb in stock oem hid kit

Hey Guys,

I didn't find the information on the forums so i thought i would ask my apologies if it is out there already. So i have a 2012 acura tsx which is equipped with factory oem hid. so i was wondering i wanted to get a d2s bulb only of 55 watt 5500k-6000k but does anyone know if i can use that 55watt bulb on factory oem ballast will it just plug and play or do i have to change the whole ballast setup?

Why would you get a 55W bulb without a 55W ballast to match? What purpose do you think this would serve? The ballast would simply underpower the bulb and you'll get dismal performance.

The ballast is what provides the power. The bulb receives it. So yep, you need a 55W ballast to power a 55W bulb.

You need one that fits the same footprint as your OEM ballast.

Or if you're handy with a 3D printer, you can print an adapter for a universal ballast.

Either way, the headlight hole MUST be properly sealed, so don't do anything hasty.

Try the retrofitsource.com or similar HID speciality sites to see what you can find.

Why do you want to do this, though? Obviously, you want more light...but the stock lighting system on this car is quite good in terms of focus and intensity within the sight pattern.

Are you just looking for light that projects out further? or??

Path of least resistance: just get a 35W bulb...
