I was looking at replacing one of the switchblade type of key fobs with a Honda style key found online. It looks slightly less bulky with less moving parts to fail. Has anyone tried this? Looking at the photos it looks like there is a spot for the transponder chip and I haven't found anything yet to make me think this wouldn't work.
The immobilizer transponder chip should be included with the key and will need to be programmed into your ECU. A good automotive locksmith and program it for you. The correct FOB electronics is important and must match the TSX operation. I needed a second FOB and after several aftermarket FOBs would not sync as "Driver 1", the locksmith procured an OEM FOB. There is a difference in the electronics for the Driver 1 and Driver 2 FOBs, so if a different Honda FOB works, you might lose the ability to sync the driver settings with the FOB.
Visit a local automotive locksmith and they may be able to offer you an alternative to the switchblade FOB.
