2014 TL loaner for the day
I took my 2010 V6 TSX in for service today and got the chance to drive a TL for the first time. A few impressions I thought I'd share:
All around I really really like the car. Love the ELS sound system in it. Nice to have push button start, keyless entry, navigation, rear view camera. Would consider this car but may as well wait now to see what the TLX will be all about.
I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I do.
- Engine feels more peppy, even though they are essentially the same. I think maybe because of the 6 speed auto in the TL vs 5 speed auto in TSX. Just feels more responsive. Great engine in both cars.
- Suspension is firm and also handles bumps / pot holes better. My car is firm too but this one just feels all around more premium. Equal firmness but also more solid.
- Interior has great materials, more premium materials, but the layout is maybe a bit more clunky

Pleather is the same. Mine isn't aging all that well in my 2010. The side bolsters on the drivers seat are wrinkled all to hell. But yeah, the rest of the interior is very nice.
I drove a 2014 A4 loaner last week too, while the A4 is a fantastic car, when you start to compare equal options and the prices, Acura does offer a fantastic value proposition IMO.

Meow.
Everytime I go to Acura, I always get disappointed for not trading in my TSX v6 for a tl sh-awd. Too bad the looks of the TL only grew on me after buying the Tsx.

The TL is so ugly and is a boat though.

Yea the 2012 is quite a bit better looking
I just read the 2012+ model also has proper downshift rev matching on the auto shawd and can go 2 gears at a time.... Ok now i kind of want one.

owning both a v6 tsx and also a tl awd sh i have to give it to the tl awd sh for a sportier ride stock vs stock. the tsx still feels quicker to me it might be due to the slight weight difference. The tl 's 6 speed has nice gearing for an auto, but i think despite the old 5 speed layout of the tsx it might just be a seat of the pants feeling but it feels quicker.
I love the way both cars look style wise. Both are excellent cars and I feel very underrated I know i dismissed both until I purchasing time.

the tl shawd 6speed manual hardly felt like a manual to be honest, the torque limiting was quite depressing too. at least the tsx feels more like a real manual transmission

My issue with the TL comes in two area, the looks and the steering.
Since the looks are subjective, we'll leave that alone. I feel like the EPS in the TSX is better tuned and offers much better feedback.
Sure the added power is nice, but I did not find the interior to be any improvement quality wise, though I certainly appreciate being able to get the manual transmission with the technology package as the TSX does not even offer that combination these days.
Not sure I would be willing to sacrifice that much fuel economy, especially for as little as I drive nowadays.
I did a full review of one at the end of last year so you can click here to read my thoughts.

^^ Do you mean the 2011+ TSX steering? I have the 2010 and honestly I don't like the steering feel in it at all. i prefer hydraulic power steering over EPS though..
But then I know they revised it for 2011+ but i haven't driven one yet.

Yes, the revised EPS calibration in the more recent cars. I test dove a pre-MMC 2G TSX and felt like the steering was similar to the TL's, which is to say lacking in feel and very dead on-center. For the MMC, they seem to have noticeable dialed back the assist and the result is a much more communicative car. It is still not as good as a proper hydraulic setup and it is no S2000, but for a daily driven car that sees some spirited driving around the local back roads, it does quite well.

Agreed on all accounts from both WPGV6TSX and CGTSX2004. I've had my TL for just over a week and I love almost everything about it. The better acceleration (esp from stop), more room, the better layout of the sea of buttons. They're just positioned in a more natural place for me. My hand moves less distance to do the same things. The Nav is faster but otherwise pretty much the same as the TSX. Audio wise, music sounds slightly better, crisper but that was expected. Gas wise, I'm getting about 2 mpg less but also exactly what's expected.
Now what I don't like is the steering. Def not as tight as the TSX. Not as much "it goes exactly where I put it", if you know what I mean. Maybe it will take some time for me to get used to it. I greatly miss the cooling center console. The TL does not have the reversible AC vent. Looks wise, I do love the front of the TL. I've even grown to appreciate her huge ass But overall I think the TSX is a better looking car. I am super happy with the upgrade so far though.

What is this reversible centre AC thing??
I'll chime in on the steering. For me, I've driven a lot of Honda and Acuras. My first car was a 91 Prelude. My car I drove was my dads 88 Accord. I've had 2 RSXs too. The "light" steering is part of all the Hondas and Acuras I've driven. I guess maybe I have just gotten used to it but it is something I don't mind.

In the TSX, the center storage compartment has an AC vent inside that when you open is capable of keeping sealed beverages/food/whatever cold. It would not make something cold from room temperature (well, unless you were on a really long trip) but if you put a cold drink in there, it would stay cold for much longer than just in the cup holder.

The 6 speed auto is nice. It shifts really smooth and it's almost CVT-like.
