2012 Premium 6MT shifting...

I could be crazy, but it seems that shifting through gears 1-3 is not a smooth as just a few months ago when I bought the car new. Anyone who has experienced a bad syncromesh knows the grinding feeling... it is far from that. It feels a bit notchy but not consistent.

I remember test driving a manual TSX and specifically noting the smooth shift, as was mine for the first couple months. 19,000kms later and it's not quite the same. Totally could be in my head though.

Anyone else notice this?

Btw, I've been lurking for some time now. First post... bam!

First off, it is called a gear synchronizer or "synchro"

syncromesh is a fluid offered by GM

If your car is under warranty bring it by the dealership and have them recreate the issue. Also have your transmission fluid checked as well.

Thanks for the correction, I totally meant to type synchro

The car is soon due for it's ''B'' servicing, so obviously I will have the techs look in to it. It is very unlikely the transmission has leaked as the drivetrain is spotless. I appreciate your diagnostic tips, but I am asking if anyone has experienced the same symptom.

side point ... but coming from an Audi A3 I am still adjusting to the fact the R-gear doesn't have a synchro on the TSX...

As a 'premiere' vehicle, not including synchro on the R gear is pretty cheap.

I have had my 6mt from 23 miles to 2200 miles no change in feel.

I have my RSX from 5k miles to 100k

stock clutch still feels great, swapped to 6mt from 5mt and still feels fine, it feels "less notchy" right after changing the fluid, but the k series 6mt transmission is kind of known for being a little notchy. Especially 1-3 because of the setup of the shift forks and all that.

You aren't shifting into reverse while moving, why would you need a synchro for it?

one less thing to wear/break lol.

Most Honda's display this 3rd gear pop out.

you can go to the dealer to get the gear set replaced.

or you can simply swap fluid.
change out the fluid to the GM synchromesh modified friction fluid. it has been renamed to A/C Delco syncromesh

Ive swapped the fluid to this synchromesh stuff and it has greatly improved my 3rd gear grind/pop out

It certainly could be in my head. It's like night and day when I compare it to my 6 speed Maxima. That POS Nissan is like shifting an 18 wheeler when it comes to notchiness and long throw.

X2 on Syncromesh, it is a bit expensive but if you make nice with the Parts guy usually they sell it at their price.

Magnetic Drain plugs were a nice investment too

I guess I've driven a VW / Audi for too long to remember I have to come to a complete stop before I shift into R ...

and when's the last time a synchro broke? Especially on a R gear that you don't use all that often ...

mine gets used every day

still trying to develop a home-made reverse lockout switch. When I converted my 5spd to 6spd, my ECU doesn't have a connection for reverse lockout solenoid. My transmission has a reverse lockout solenoid built in but no control now. So I have to make one up myself.
