2010 steering feel
Good evening everyone,
I have noticed in a Canadian Car Review web site that the 2010 TSX have had their power steering re-tuned to have more of an "on centre" feel. I know this has been a complaint of most 2009 TSX owners in the past. My TSX (2009) is not bad at all, I mean it does feel different than an Audi or BMW as far as steering feel but I am not totally freaking out about it.
I am curious, is Acura able to re-tune the 2009 TSX steering feel as those from the 2010 or that is not doable. Have any of you test driven a 2010 and seen a big difference from your 2009? I have no Acura dealership close to where I live so I can't test at the moment.
Cheers

the 2010's have a heavier steering wheel feel. Maybe gives you a bit more road feedback. The 09's steering feels more twitchy and nimble. I dont think the dealer can retune the steering on the 2009's

Thanks for the message. I was hoping that a few others would chime in but so far, very few responses. I know a few are Acura technicians too so these guys could give some input on that as well. Anyone else??

I'm pretty sure there's a thread on either this forum or TSX Club where an owner traded in his '09 for an '10 and commented on the steering. IIRC, he mentioned the steering as feeling identical within the first few weeks, but after a month or so, he could totally notice a difference.

Guess I can't edit my post...

" .... The steering feels EXACTLY the same as my 2009. In fact, the 2009 steering to me felt heavier and more "on center" at 7100 miles than my 2010 does at 300 miles. Now does the steering change a little bit with time? I'm convinced yes. I noticed that my 2009 steering became more rigid over the course of the 7100 miles than it did "looser" as have my other cars .... "
There's no question that steering feel changes with mileage. I'm suggesting that the difference in the steering identified by the original contributor (heavier, better feel on centre) was due to tyre wear. The amount of 'give' in the tread decreases as the tyre wears. This endows the steering greater weight and improved feel. The difference is similar to, although nowhere near as great, that felt when fitting a lower profile tyre. And a tyre which has covered just 300 miles hasn't even begun to wear the high spots from the tread. It feels very artificial.
Because these cars are ultra-sensitive to tyre and steering/suspension geometry changes, I feel that any comparison is only valid if the cars have identical tyres with identical tread depth and wear patterns. Also, two cars at the opposite ends of the tolerance range with regard to toe, etc. would feel completely different.
