2010 non tech TSX

Hi guys, I'm retiring my RL and I'm looking to get a TSX. I saw a 2010 TSX and it look like a base model without the navi. It just has a small screen on top of the dash console. Anyway, it has about 29k miles on in and the dealer wants 20k$ for it. Is it a good deal or not? Is there any maintain coming up so I can negotiate with the saleman lol. BTW, how about the MPG? I know it has good MPG, but I just want know what are you guy getting. I hope to get a reply ASAP and Thanks for checking.

Just wondering isn't a RL to a TSX a downgrade? lol... both in different categories and different price ranges, and yes I know yours isn't a newer RL but still.

$20K is not a bad deal for a 30K mile 010, especially if it's certified (I paid $22K last January for a certified 15K mile car). I've never been a fan of OE Nav, and have little interest in the other "goodies" that are included with it, so I decided that a base was the way to go. The only maintenance item out of the ordinary would be brake fluid if it hasn't been done (interval is every 3 years regardless of mileage, and the maintenance "nanny" doesn't keep track of it). Mine is an AT and the mileage I've been getting is impressive. I do mostly highway driving (and at fairly high speed), and probably average around 29 (sometimes more, rarely less). I agree that you would probably find the move from an older RL to a 2nd gen TSX mostly an upgrade.

Around the DC area, that's a decent price. Not sure what area you're in though. Just make sure you buy from a reputable dealer a lot of dealers are selling cars with dirty carfaxes

Thanks for all of your reply guys. The car is at a Capitol Honda dealer (408 area) and it is the only TSX there beside I don't know it is certified not. They have some 2011 certified running around $25k at an Acura but I think is out of my budget. What about the recall for 2009-2012 because of the oil deposit or burning on the ring, do I have to worry about that too? Thanks.

Ok, guys. I just test drive the car but I don't know I felt the steering is a little heavy and the ride is bouncy ( or you can call it sporty?) Is this normal? Other then that the car is in a really good condition, and it still has Acura warranty for 60k. I have been driving the RL for a really long time and I really enjoy its that's probably the reason lol. I drove my sis 09 Camry and I have to say the TSX steering is heavier than the Camry. Anyway, the sale guy told me that I can have it for $18,900. I'm planning to go for a test drive a 012 TSX with 21k miles for $24k tomorrow; and compare from there. OMG, never know buying a car with such headache.

Yeah that is all normal. I've noticed also steering is affected a lot by tire pressure. So they might have had a little to much air in the front tires. And yeah ride is kinda bouncy. But as a side effect the car does corner pretty well

Thanks, good to know. I drove the RL and MDX; I just get used to their steering. I just a little surprise how heavy the steering wheel is. Anyway, I will go test drive some more TSX. Is there anything I should pay attention while looking at the car?

Just drive a few and take your time. The heavy steering wheel is part of the "sportiness". I personally liked it. The lighter the steering wheel the easier it is for it to flail around when you are cornering. Throw some sways on there and it'll take a turn on a dime. And $20k for a '10 w/ 45k? I traded my '10 TSX in and got $18,5 for it. They marked it up to $21,5 and advertised it as "WAS $24,700". I laughed. It was never 24,7. And this was back in March of this year. But yeah, I would go for an '11 or later. And I wouldn't pay any more than $21,500 for it.

And what to watch out for? The typical noises that tell you a car has been beaten on. Other than that, these are Honda made so they take a beating. Just make sure all the terms of the warranty or an extended warranty are laid out before you get into the finance office.

Ok, I just got back from the dealer. At first, I went to an Acura unfortunately they did not have any preowned TSX. However, I saw a 2010 TSX at a Honda just across the street. I test drive the car and I have to say its ride is pretty good, notice I did not take this car to the freeway. I just drove around the street. Anyway, the sticker prize is $20,981.00 with 22K miles. It was a lease car and the guy showed me the carfax; he said the maintenance is up to date.
The final prize for the car is $25,417.35 includes tax, dealer paper works, smog and with Lojack($825), Phantom footprint($99), Envirogaurd($1,079.0).
Pass or not?

Not a fan of all that dealer installed crap. Mainly just huge money makers for the dealer. If you actually want any (or all) of that stuff, you can do much better in the aftermarket once you get the car.

$18.9K? What's wrong with this deal? Sounds pretty good to me. And you're right, buying a car sucks, so once you find a car that you like and/or can live with, don't try to reinvent the wheel; buy it!

Thanks. So yeah, the first TSX for $18.9k is at 30k and the tire is about to give up. The tires have small crack around them. Anyway, I'll try ask them if they can lower some more.

Make sure you check the rear brakes, at 30k the must be worn out since most 2010 TSX had this problem on rear brakes

I got my 10 TSX V6 with 30k and dealer had already replaced new rear rotors and pads and 4 new tires.

Yep. My rear brakes were replaced around 35k.

As for the heavy steering, you might prefer a 2011 or later, because due to complaints about the 2010, the steering was adjusted for much less effort at low speeds, which makes parking maneuvers easier. I noticed this immediately when I got a 2012 as a loaner. At higher speeds, they feel identical, and I think it was a worthwhile change.

Ok, I'll take note of that. Anyway, how reliable is this 2gen TSX? After I have read the "problem and fixes" section it looks like the car has a lots of problem, for example the burning oil consumption! I need it to last for a 100K before I trade it in lol. I will get the Acura extended warranty for sure which they cover up to 100K, I hope!

Those are just people posting that have had problems. I'm at 80k about to be 81k with NO major problems, in fact none of my speakers have busted either and I have the tech. Dad bought the TSX with my help about a year ago and we bought it with 47k... It has excellent MPG on the highway.

Good to know. I have a couple of 012 TSX at the dealer that I want to look at before I make a decision on which one to get.

I won't look at the number of posts in the Problem and Fixes section as the basis of reliability. If we do that then we can easily say that the 1st gen is PROBLEMATIC just by the number of posts compared to the 2nd gen. But that isn't true. I've seen a lot of 1st gens on the road and one lady friend has one and it's been a very reliable car for her. The 2nd gen looks to be just the same as the 1st gen, with maybe a little improvement.

My 2010 has been extremely reliable. Aside from replacing the rear brakes, refilling the freon for the A/C, and replacing the front struts at about 60k miles, it's needed nothing beyond scheduled maintenance. After six years in a VW and eight in a Saab, this has been refreshing to say the least. The strut replacement was a bummer, but I live in downtown Philly and often drive around the NYC area, where sport suspensions take a serious beating. My (excellent) repair shop said it was essentially normal wear.

Yeah idk about RL to TSX being an upgrade, specially if you used to that 300hp, AWD and rear seat comfort and the like. Honestly I had a Legend before my TSX and even felt some subtle downgrades from that switch.

Yeah, it is definitely a downgrade but I need something that have a good MPG.
Anyway, I need your help guys, I have two TSX to choose from and I need your opinions on it.
First: certified 2012 TSX special edition with only 4,000 miles for $26,977. Warranty 12 months plus 7 years/100K.
Second: Loaner 2013 TSX base 4,000 miles for $27,988.
Which one is a better deal? And I not sure about the loan TSX. I think people are abusing the car pretty bad lol. I saw the interior and it had a lots of black mark on the rear seat. What is so special about the special edition? I saw it only have the red gauge and the lip kit. Thank you very much
BTW, a 2013 tech pck 4,700 miles for $29,899.

Ahh, great. I just found out that the certified 2012 TSX is a corporate fleet vehicle. Should I have anything to be afraid? Thanks.

Means it might have been abused. Check everything over just to be sure.

I had a '10 base TSX I traded at 32k miles for a '13 Accord. I had to replace all the door lock motors, the battery, and also had to turn (machine) all 4 rotors in 2 years but that was about all. I liked the car, but the display without navi sucked IMO.

You could score a new base model for $26-27k more than likely. I got $18k for mine on trade, but it had been in an accident. Too bad the guy who bought it the next day wasn't told that, or that I had free alignments and oil changes for the life of the car
