I posted this in the car talk section in off topic, but here are 2 new commercials for the 2009 TSX. What do you think?

They aren't bad. The car looks pretty clean in the ads.
However, I still don't like the whole "Advance" marketing theme though.
Acura needs to drop that and come up with something better.

Meh. I'm not sure they appeal to me personally. Neither one tells me much about the car other than it's "technologically advanced". The lighting is a little off too IMO. Since this was shot at night you can't really see the car very well....especially the interior.

Bof. Clearly, trying to appeal to the youthful, "cool" crowd, or the buyer who wants to feel like that crowd. (Do I fit that profile? Probably.)

I agree, the ads don't show the car very clearly at all (lots of reflected light). Either they're trying to "unveil" the car slowly, like a Sally Rand fan dance, or don't want you to see the car too clearly ... and just get a "slick" impression. Agreed, it doesn't show the interior at all. Is the interior really eye-catching, though?

I like to listen to ads silent, the good ones tell you a story without hearing any voiceover or dialog. First one, "here he comes, he's cool, lone wolf, she gets up, 'chase me, boy,' he does, finds her at cool concert,... they're gonna dance, yeah." Second one, "wow, you can fit your harem in here, four, maybe five babes." Saying much about the car? Nope. They'll sell the car on its features later, surely.

I think so! The floating needle gauges and aggressively-bolstered seats are two of my favorite features.

I was just expecting something with a bit more "life", and less pretense. What about a guy carving up a mountain road, rowing through the gears (or using the illuminated paddle-shifters) while listening to some rockin' music on the state-of-the-art audio system via the new iPod interface.

To me all car commercials pretty much suck nowadays. I miss the old Nissan Maxima & Z commercials from the early 90's. One of my personal favs:

The last "Dreamer" ad was narrated by James Spader, not sure about this one. The link takes you to the national '60 sec. Dreamer' ad, a '30 sec. local ad' that our store paid BIG bucks for and a 30 sec. version I cooked up in half a day. (all one clip).

I think the best Honda Ad I've seen was "Impossible Dreams" from 2005

This car is turning into the IS 250... does anyone remember how enthusiast the ads were for the original IS 300???

Look at that car now... there is nothing sporty about it!!!! And this is what they are doing to the TSX.

At least it seems that the car is somewhat sporty, but the image they are creating around it is all luxury.

How many freaking times did the voiceover say the word LUXURY!?!?

Luxury...

luxury...

did we mention that the new TSX offers Luxury!!!!! LUXURY!

I've always found this old hyundai commercial funny for some reason. Probably because it's really bad.

Turn down your speakers. The video is LOUD.

I recall someone telling me this was the last time an Acura commercial showed a car with the wheels off the ground until a recent RSX commercial

I was really starting to like the looks of the 09, but the TSXs in these comercials look awful. Funny, the PMM TSX looked great in Motorweek.

As for the comercials, the 1st one is not too bad. The 2nd one is just beyond awful IMO.

I didn't time it but I think they spent more time showing stuffy people and city scapes than they did showing the car, and when they did show the car they showed us the bumper, or the nav screen, or the car from a top down angle. It's sad that they resort to selling an illusion instead of the car. Worse still I think the market they're targeting would sooner buy a BMW, not an Acura.

I saw one of the commercials on tv last night for the first time. I missed most of it, though. They need to show more car and less city. But hey, at least we don't have talking cartoon man (Mr. Opportunity) like Honda. Those commercials are just plain annoying.

I think they would have better luck marketing the car for what it is, a nicer Accord, and targeting modest people who'd want a nicer Accord rather than serve up a car that has little or no cachet to a group that obviously obviously cares about how they look to others.

I know Honda wants to steal sales away from Audi and BWM with their commercials but they didn't make a car that's up to the task, and this kind of marketing might actualy turn off people who would otherwise like the car. When they talk up the luxury luxury luxury I start thinking as a 1G buyer that maybe this car is too much posh and not enough practical or sport.

It's better to do one thing well than many things poorly.

I don't buy that. One of the reasons why Infinitis are so popular are their snazzy ads. Part of selling a "luxury" product, is selling an image. Otherwise why would someone pay $200 rather than $80 for jeans.

Here's a TSX ad with wheels off the ground: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfMyTCUB4p4

Cant watch youtube here, but as I said, the policy was changed with an RSX ad, RSX came before TSX

Atleast Infiniti looks the part. Just insisting that something is classy doesn't make it so.

Aren't Infiniti's accussed of the same thing as most Acuras (looking too much like their Nissan cousins)?

Now, if you would have said "at least Infiniti offers RWD and a V8" I would have agreed, but stylistically speaking they aren't really ahead of Acura IMO.

I don't recall seeing any wheels off the ground in that ad. But then the contrast is pretty high.

Cute ad, though. I definitely feel that driving the car in the "outer envelope."

Just this morning I walked past an Infiniti in the airport garage with my little girl, then walked past an Altima 4 cars down ... and did a at the nearly identical (or exactly identical?) taillight assemblies.

I like Infiniti vehicle a lot, but the G37 coupe resembles the much cheaper Altima Coupe from many angles (mainly the greenhouse), and the new FX looks positively beastly.

For comparison:

Geez, and many thought the "element" on the TSX was bad.

Nissans don't look too bad to begin with. Despite how curious the Infinitis looks from any angle you have to admit that overall they look like design museum show pieces. They're perfect for older people who want to look sophisticated.

I actually like the new FX, it just looks mean and intimidating than any of the Acura SUV's. The MDX is nice from the front, but the rear is bland. While on the RDX, nothing about it is nice to me, looks boring and from the side the RDX resembles the 1st gen MDX too much.

Don't turn this into an Acura vs. Infiniti matchup.
