? Will 3G stock wheels fit 2G ?
This is my premier post - brand new to the site:
I've read a number of posts regarding offsets and different size wheels/tires. Enough that I have some specific questions for those of you who have paved the way....
Change in scene requires dedicated snow tires, which I intend to mount on the stock 16x6.5x45mm offset wheels. No problem there. I desire to replace the current 215/55-16 dry/wet rubber with 235/45-17 (3g stock size) on 3G 17x8x55mm stock wheels. Circumference is close enough for gearing and speedo. I have test fit one borrowed stock wheel/tire from a new 08 TL on the RF wheel of the 2G - no obvious clearance issues, even at full lock turn with the front end compressed. The concern is any adverse effect of the offset on the steering geometry & handling. TireRack advises to mount the new wheels and tires on the 2G and test drive it - not exactly a cost effective means of sorting out the issue prior to purchase.
FYI - why am I interested in 3G stock wheels? 2 reasons: 1) The ride is a 99 2nd Gen with 150k on it. Still a good, reliable, fast highway ride that will get passed down to child at college. 3G wheels are available relatively cheap as fellow motorheads upgrade their newer rides, and frankly, college tuition comes first. 2) The stock split 5 spoke wheels look great on the 99 in a subdued, sleeper kind of way - similarly styled to the original split 7 spoke wheels.
What are the "rear bumper tabs" referred to as requiring trimming to eliminate rubbing of wider tires. Are these concealed by the stone/mud guards, or elsewhere in the wheel well?
Thanks

There have been a few 2nd gen members that are riding on 3rd gen TL wheels. If you're not going to lower your TL, you shouldn't have any rubbing issues, but since you wanted info on trimming the tabs, look at post 27 of this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...bs#post1521385
IMO, 2nd gen Type S wheels look better than 3rd Gen TL wheels
