Exclamation Tires too 'Wide'? Questions about new wheels/tires I got

Hi guys, just got a new package, is as follows.

18" x 7.5"

235 40 R18 93Y

Offset - not sure but will know tommorrow morning.

anyway, i was getting some rub when i first started out but only on big potholes, then my two 'big' friend jumped in the back for a ride and it ruuubbbbed. Took it back the next day and they dremeled some stuff and it helped but i haven't tossed the big boys in the back yet.

Everything is fine but the tire does seem a bit wide compared to what everyone else is saying.

What would the benefits be to going to a smaller width? (225)
Anyone have experience with 18x7.5 with both width tires and have opinions on what looked better?

What offset would you guys recommend for both 235 and 225 tires, I'm going back tommorrow to get everything double checked and would like an offset to tell them. I think they did 42, but could of done 45...what would happen with the difference? I think smaller offset means more rubbing on the inside if its not enough?

Thanks for the answers in advance...I'll be watching this thread so any other ?'s lemme know.

I'll post pics or a link to the rims if you guys are curious, i can't find my digi camera upload link or I'd show ya.

235 will fit if the offset is correct. If its not even 225 will rub

your best bet is too get 225. I have a 42 offset and usually have my trunk loaded and passengers and dont rub unless it's a big dip and I have a 1 finger gap drop all the way around.

Also, I've gotten mixed responses on needing a new suspension/brakes, thoughts?

PS - I do plan on a body kit in the future too (see mod forum)...this is my 'show' car

As Kris mentioned, going with 225's won't help much if the offset on your wheels are too low. You first need to identify what offset your wheels have. We can then give you more accurate info on tire selection.

Like everyone else is saying: it all depends on your offset. I'm running 235s right now on 7.5" wide wheels +48 offset and I get minor rubbing on the rear driver side when I hit big dips at highway speeds. When I ran 225s on my old wheels (same width/offset) I never rubbed. By the way I have Tein H-techs with cut tabs.

To me I like the way the 235s look better than 225, just because it's wider. The rubbing I get is very minor and occurs rarely so I can live with it.

its a +42 offset but they rolled the fenders...haven't had any problems yet but haven't had a 'stress' test so to speak. Speaking with the guy who did the job he said I shouldn't have anymore problems, even after I drop it a bit.

As long as the tires don't rub (or only rub with a lot of weight in the back), 235 width is the way to go.

The problem is getting the right offset wheel to hold that size tire.
