Tire Siping

I am getting some Falken Ziex 512 tires for my 2000 TL today and wondered if there are any advantages/disadvantages to getting them siped. Tires will be direct stock replacements.

Thanks.

Ziex 512 are designated All-Season tires. By the look of the tread pattern there is no area where siping would be beneficial. You also want to check with the manufacturer as some do not recommend siping on passenger car tires. May also void any or all warranties.

Hi - Thanks for the reply.

The tire dealer here in PDX (Discount Tire Co.) recommended it and they are official Falken dealers
however - I have also emailed Falken about this and hopefully they will clear things up.

Anyone else have any input?

Folks,

Here's the answer from Falken re: Siping

"Siping the tire may help improve traction when driving in
Icy conditions (the only benefit to siping a tire), but may cause irregular
wear to the tread, since this now changes it's design. The mileage warranty
would be voided on tires sent in for premature wear when siped."

The good thing about Discount TIre is that if they sipe the tires, you don't have to worry about the manufacturer warranty because Discount will honor the warranty and should you have a tire that wears prematurely and is not due to faulty struts or alignment, you will get the tire replaced for free if you purchase the road hazard with certificates. Trust me, I've dealt with Discount for 14 years now and they are the best thing going. The honor everything they sell and no questions asked. I have my tires siped on all my vehicles, including when I had 17 and 18 inch tires. They reduce heat, provide better traction when it's slick out and I get great wear out of them. I would have no worries, but buy and get them siped at Discount Only and make sure you get replacement certificates!!
