Are Tein S-Tech Springs Worth it?

I plan on getting the Tein S-Tech springs for my 99TL only because i don't have the money for the Coilovers and i feel that the springs should give me a decent drop. Does anyone know if these spring are good and if there gona destroy the suspension on the car or is it just gona be somewhat of a not so soft ride?

The S-tech springs are the 'sportier' ones that Tein offers. They also have the H-tech springs which are less aggressive in drop, but offer a closer ride to OEM specs. (I'm going for the H-tech springs since my Comptech springs are rusting)

Are you keeping your OEM 16" rims? Keeping the OEM shocks? If you're gonna lower your car and still have the original suspension, you might as well get new shocks (aftermarket such as Tokico or Koni) since your car is up on the hoist ...

My

PS Do a search in this forum ... lots of info on the various springs available for a 2nd gen TL...

Question

[COLOR=DarkGreen]This is my plan as far as lowering the car goes. I want to go with the Tein S-Tech springs. Im gona put 18" 7.5 Rims with 225/40/18 Toyo Proxes 4 Tires. I'm also gona have my OEM Kit on the car as well. I'll probably go with a camber kit also so that i dont have to worry about bad camber and bad tire wear. With this setup that i have listed, Will the Tein S-TECH Springs work just fine? Will i have to worry about and tire rubb again the wheel well at all? What do you think?

I have an OEM kit and have scraped on steep driveways and the odd curb. Camber has yet to be an issue on any set of tires/rims I've had thus far. If I remember correctly, the S-tech springs will give you about a 2" front / 1.5" rear drop. With a 225/40/18 tire ... you might be on the limits of needing a camber kit. In that instance, I would advise you getting a camber kit just to make sure you won't have to worry about camber shredding your tires.

Depending on the rim's offset, I don't think you should worry about rubbing. What shocks are you using? You'll probably want something more of a dampening rate than OEM spec. In fact, I would definitely recommend new shocks (Tokico, Konis) to make sure you don't rub.

I've rubbed with +45 offset, 18x7.5" rims (on OEM Type-S shocks). So just as a precaution ... get new shocks with your spring installatioin -- you'll save on labor since everything has to be taken off, anyways.

A few feedbacks about these springs. I have Tein S.Techs on my 1999 TL. It`s a 2.1F and 1.6R drop. You will definitely need a camber kit for the rear. My rear is cambered. Planning to buy a camber kit soon. Does anyone know what camber kits out there that are good? Also, I have aftermarket rims, they were the same dimensions as the OEM rims tho`, and I rubbed. I`m also sitting on stock shocks. Definitely need new shocks, I hear them rattling everytime I drive over little dips and bumps. I like the agressive drop look tho`. As for ride quality, EHHH, no complaints. Hope that helped you.

The TL-P and TL-S have different shock rebound/dampening rates. That's why some don't have problems scraping with OEM shocks while others do.

I know that SPC has a camber kit for our cars. Haven't heard much else of other brands ...
