Speed and Load Rating? Need Advice

I have a 99 TL and looking for new tires. The tires on the car are rated 91V and some shops have said it is ok to put 92H rated tires on while other shops will not put anything on except the 91V's. I found what sounds like a good deal on Falken ZE912's ($560.00 incl taxes, installed, balanced, new valve stems and wheel alignment). Has anyone tried these tires and if so what are they like, and can I put 92H on my car (I don't drive faster than 80-90 mph).

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Agreed, since you don't excessively break speeding laws, in an aggravated manner. Load rating is higher, no prob there.

And even the speed. The tire will handle a short burst past 130, its the sustained period you dont want (nor would i imagine you would for more than a few min at a time)

Expect the H-rated tires to take a hit in performance compared with V-rate tires that have more rigid sidewall and tougher construction to handle the extra speed.

Hey Rob-2

What kind did you put on and how do you like them? I'm in Canada so I think tires and most other things are generally more up here.

Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge at tirerack.com

BTW they ship to Canada and I wouldn't buy tires locally, they're a rip off.

You have to think about defective tires and pro-rated warranty replacement too, only available if buying tires locally. It's a pain to ship tires back and froth to the States, meanwhile the car is sitting on a jack stand for the whole week.

Your right, you do have to think about that. For me, warranties are truly overrated. Tends to be a fear button, and I've never had a good experience with warranty claims myself. Local shop or not.

You must have got them on sale as they are $424 for a set. Shipping costs for the GY Eagle Response is $110.00 to Vancouver Canada ($50.00 to Seattle for comparison) which pretty much negates any savings. Good advice on the warranty too. I bought my car from my cousin in California and when the tranny went I had to take it to Seattle for the warranty work....but that is another thread...
Thanks for the input!

I once had a sidewall bubble on one of the Cdn$400 Pilot Sport summer tires. The local shop where I bought the tires from, did the pro-rated warranty claim for me, and I only ended up paying a fraction of the new tire cost for a brand new replacement tire.

Well that was nice of them. Did you replace the other three at the same time, to match the tread wear or did you drive around with one new tire?

Oh, the pains of living in Canada... sorry to hear they can't get you the savings.

I'm in California, so I wasn't aware they would charge you $110 to get the tires out to you. I paid $40 shipping I believe.

The good tire on the other side hadn't worn down too much, and didn't need to be replaced as a pair.

Shipping stuffs from US to Canada is no fun. We have to pay this hefty custom brokerage fee (for doing the across border custom paperwork) and also this Canadian import tax, GST, ..... So sometimes it is cheaper to buy stuffs locally than after adding up all the extra costs of buying in the US and shipping them to Canada.
