Snow Cables or Chains....Tires are not an option
I am going up to the mountains for 3 days, thus purchasing snow tires are not an option. If the manual says no chains or cables, what are my options?
I live in Southern California, and have no desire to layout for tires that will not be used again.
Thanks,
Mike

My 01TL owner manual allows the use of Type S- limited clearance cable system ONLY
There is not enough room to clear the steering parts with real chains!
I have a set just in case, but have not had to use them and I am on 18" tires
Smart money rents a 4wheel drive and rents the CHAINS with it.
Practice putting the cables on there- in the dry- where someone can help you learn
On the ground sucks and its 30 dollars for professional installers to do it on the mountain and 20 to remove them for you a few miles later!!!!
Learn how- bring rubber floor mats to lay on- and a flashlight
And get the "you owe nothing" full coverage insurance- glass breaks, cars collide, especially city dwellers who throw cables on a fwd car and head into predicted HEAVY snow conditions---those guys crash all the time
Bring plenty of water, snacks, blankets, books,
DANGER:
DO NOT leave the car running in high snow without clearing the area around the exhaust pipes
3 girls just lost their life, sleeping outside in a ski resort parking lot- waiting to apply for jobs in the morning
Snow rose up quickly and blocked the exhaust, forcing carbon monoxide into the cabin area and ,,,well you know what happens
CARRY A SHOVEL!!!
(and a bottle to pee in while stuck on closed road)
