Rubbing with stock wheels Eibach Pro Kit
Apparently I've been rubbing in the front with 215/55/16 tires on stock rims, with the 2.1 inch drop. I haven't noticed it, but have been seeing discolor on the tires. Last night I took a fast sharp turn and heard a loud screaching from the corner the weight was shifted to.
After all i read on here i thought i wouldnt be rubbing haha. I think trimming the plastic back will help me for now, but now i am scared to get new rims like i was planning. thoughts? |
Something is not right. You shouldn't be even close to rubbing.
|
:agree: You shouldnt be rubbing going straight, turning is a different story as there isnt room for the tire to fit under the fender turned but even then it should be minimal if any with that tire size. I run 255/35/18s and almost never rub up front and i dont have them rolled or pulled. Do you have aftermarket sways?
|
the way my car is lowered, i dunno, 3" maybe? i dont rub with my stocks and winters, unless im going up a curb onto my driveway with my wheel turned all the way over, even then, its very slight and depending on my angle, not at all.
so ya, bottom line, something isnt right. maybe its your toe or camber thats off, need an alignment or something. |
Hmmm maybe it is just bumps and hard turns. Like I said I never notice it, but just see the discoloration on the side of the tire. Just had an alignment not too long ago and everything was great.
And yes, I do have aftermarket sways, the red eibach bars, with moog links. Should this be anything to worry about? The coloration on the tire sure is annoying though lol |
are you on stock shocks?
pictures would also help |
What do you mean by discoloration on the tires? Can you take pics?
|
Will get pics shortly.
I have the blue tokico in the front and the adjustable in the back. |

Before I couldn't see the rub marks, but now I can see it better. This first pic shows the front left tire which is the one that took the weight when I made that sharp turn.

Are you sure it was a rubbing noise you heard? Conti DWS have a VERY soft sidewall and scream in agony when cornering aggressively. I had these on my stock TL wheels as well. They were amazing snow tires but very loud.
|
Is that discoloration all around the wheels???
You might need fender work if they're like that. I have never experienced discoloration from rubbing, but then again I don't have fender liner and have my fenders pulled. |

Ya it could definitely be rollover. I don't see anything clearcut on the lining.
But what is that coloring from? It's on the tread itself as well. What's odd is I don't go around taking corners like a mad man, (besides this one time or two haha) the sidewalls must be extremely soft. Should I be worried about doing that to the tires? Not that I mean to but sometimes I gotta catch that green light lol |
Can you post pictures of your car and ride height on those springs?

OP, my 2003 also has an Eibach Pro System on it. I'm running 215 60 R16 Michelin Primacy tires. I have no rubbing at all.
From the pic you posted of your car, I'm a lot lower that you are. I have almost no wheel gap. My drop was 2" in front and 1.5" in the back. Hard to believe you are rubbing with your setup. |

^
Those DWSs are great tires but the one (possible) drawback is that they are very soft. In fact, when I had them with coilovers, I could compress the tires before the suspension compressed. |
