Q for H&R sport users

How much lower does your car sit now compared to stock with the H&R's? I'm thinking about lowering and the numbers they state seem sufficient to me. I dont want slammed, but would like to take away some of that generous room in the fenders. I was thinking of the H&R with stock struts-much ride quality sacrifice?

You're better off replacing the stock shocks at the same time you change the springs. You don't have to, but it's reccomended. Stock shocks won't last very long with lowering springs and they might blow soon after.

Here's my TL after installing H&R Sport and Tokico Blue HP shocks. The ride is pretty nice, pretty similar to stock.

To give you a better idea of how much lower it is, i used to be able to fit 4 fingers between the tire and fender.

It's going to be 1.75" F and 1.5" R. If your shocks have 40+k on them definitely look into replacing your shocks. We recommend TOKICO HP's with the H&R Sports. The whole package is about $550 shipped to the cont US so it's fairly inexpensive to lower your car considering you will eventually have to replace the shocks anyways.

sounds good. Liking the price. now.. how to convince my wife that lowering springs are part of shocks needing replacement..

i agree, my front shocks are almost gone, so im shopping around for a good suspension, i want to cover the gaps under the fenders but then again i really do not want to mess up the way my ride feels.. idk about you guys but where im from in providence rhode island, the streets arent too perfect will the car feel alot stiffer? or will it be a little bouncy?

All depends on teh drop and shock you buy, but of the normal drop springs (H&R, Eibach) the ride wont be any worse than stock.

They are perfect for street driving and just like excellerate said 1.5 in the back and 1.75 in the front. In running illuminas and have had this setup on the car for 60k. Still rides like a champ.

so H&R 50103 it is, but do I really have to replace the shocks too- or can I do it later? I know some of you guys say that the factory shocks wont hold up, but was hoping to keep them long as theyre still good. Could have sworn Ive read other posts people using factory shocks with H&R sports. Ive got access to a shop and can swap this stuff out easy.

I had H&R sports on stock shocks for a few months and they got bad pretty quick. Had about 70,000 miles on the stockers though. Then switched out to KYB GR-2. To me these springs still felt like I was riding stock.

Some pictures when I was on H&R sports.

Stock shocks will hold up for a while...but end up you probably need to spend another 100 bucks for the installation of new shocks. Why don't you do them all at once?
Tokico blue shocks are one of the best that pair with H&R if you are in budget.
Search around and you will find Bilstein, Tokico, or KYB shocks...good luck

flyboy, nickjames-thanks for the pics. That is the exact amount of drop I was hoping for.

Looks like Ive gotta stuff some more in the piggy bank so I can get both springs and shocks. My stockers have some mileage on them so they probably wont hold up long. Reason I asked is I can install the stuff free at my buddies shop.

Thanks for the help

I got my HR's installed around 30K miles, I'm at 95K miles now, no problems on my stock struts, but I do way more highway driving than city driving which does make a big difference in strut life period, dropped or not. I plan to get Bilsteins when it is time to replace my struts

^^people who ride in my car think it rides very smooth, even with 19's and the springs. My struts are leaking or anything. Now, even though they are not leaking doesn't mean they aren't weaker than before, but no sign of failure yet. I'm sure it may ride better with new struts if I put them in there, but I'll worry about that later. Again, if I was in a city like Detroit, Milwaukee, or Chicago where there are very bad roads and blacktop/concrete transition gaps to make my struts work harder, I'm sure I would need some new ones by now. The roads here in GA are very smooth for the most part (except downtown/midtown ATL) and all my driving back in CO was pretty much highway.

Here is my drop after 4 years or so, quite a bit of settling
