Opinion of Yokohama YK520

All,

I've been shopping around for tires and before I buy them, I'd like to know what you've all heard or experienced with the YK520. Is it true they are only sold at Discount Tire? Why?
My other option were the Goodyear Tripletred, although from what I read they seem to have a more firmer ride and they are also about $25 more a tired.
Also, I see that many of you have the AVID H4S ,or V4S. Would you go with the new technology and the YK520 or the AVID H4S?

I'm leaning heavily towards the YK520's, but I'd like you hear your opinions first on this comparison.

Also, they're going on stock 2001, 16's. I drive the car fairly easy, not alot of fast cornering. I'm not worried about handling as much as I am about how they handle in the rain, noise, and treadlife. Also, it never snows so I never have to worry about driving in ice or snow, only rain.

Thanks

It is actually called YK420. I wouldnt get them if I were you. I had them on one of my cars before and the grip/braking/stiffness was terrible, even worse then the stock tires. In addtion, the stock 300 rating lasted longer than the 420 tread rating. It is true that discount tire co tries to push that specific tire.

If I were you, I would go es100s, v4s, or even the kumhos(anything above 711).

Replaced stock tires on my 02' TL Type-S with Yokohama Avid V4S and couldn't be happier. Much cheaper than stock tires and rated better in every characteritic. Purchased thru The Tire Rack.

I bought the Advan Sport from discount tire & I am very happy. The faster you go, the better they ride. Traction on wet and dry is superb.

I had the YK420s and the treadwear on them wasn't that great. I actually got the AVS ES100s on there right now and I like them so far. But they're summer tires so they may not be good if you are in an area where it snows.

I have the YK520 215/50/17 93 on my TLs. I absolutely love them. I'm not a racer by any means, but I do push the car every now and then and they are extremely quiet and cut right through water with no problems. I would recommend them for anyone who doesn't take their car to the track. For everyday and the occasional sport shifting bug we all get, these are great tires with a great warranty. I got mine through Discount Tire. They ARE NOT YK420, they are actually the YK520, a newer style.
