Newbie with G2 wheel questions
Hi Everyone,
I just fell into the Acura world (I'm an old shool big block chevy guy but now I seem to be falling into Acura-land pretty quick). I just got a 02 TL (wdp) with only 27k miles from an older lady who babied it and just drove it to work (4 miles) and back - always serviced at the dealer and looks and drives great. Can't afford a new car and this is as nice as I am gonna get and the price was right.
So, Now I found AcuraZine and I'm in trouble... so many ideas - so little money...
Question: I am interested in upgrading to the 2G Type S wheels and notice on some acura dealers' websites that the TL Type S wheels are 17x6.5 and that the same wheel for the 2G CL are 17x7. Why the difference? They look like they are the same design just different width wheel. There has to be something I am missing...
Thanks in advance for your help

6G TLX-S
Yes, it's correct. The 2G CL-S wheels are always 17x7" and the 2G TL-S wheels are always 17x6.5", meaning that the CL-S wheels are 1/2 an inch wider in width than the TL-S ones.
In fact, the CL-S wheel spokes stick out a little further than the TL-S wheel spokes. The difference is subtle, and you have to have the two different wheels side by side in order to see the difference.

Wow- that was a fast response - thanks!
Are ther any clearance problems with using the wider wheel? (I think I woud like to go with the wider wheel if it doesn't interfere with the suspension or fender)
If not, what tire(s) would you recommend for 17x7?
Thanks

idk about that guy up there.. but i can tell the difference in the two wheels a mile away j/k
they are noticeably different. the CL-S wheels taper off. and in my opinion.. the TL-S wheels look much nicer.

No clearance problems (I'm running CL-S wheels), and stock tire size is 215/50/17 but if I were you I'd do 225/50/17 if you don't plan to lower it, and 225/45/17 if you are planning to drop it. But again, the amount of drop matters. If you are dropping it less than 2", 225/50 is fine, but if you are dropping it more than 2" I'd go with 225/45

^ I don't blame you. You have to see them in person to notice significant difference. If you want to do an 'upgrade' to OEM Type-S rims, see whatever is cheaper (all things being equal). It'll probably more difficult to find CL-S rims since they sold less of them (ie supply and demand).
If I recall correctly ... both TL-S and CL-S rims are +55 offset so the 1/2" in width difference will not affect rubbing unless you lower the car by a lot and add really fat tires. If worse comes to worse, you can always roll the fenders and that should resolve any rubbing issues you may encounter. (If you lower your car by a lot, I'd be more concerned with camber problems than rubbing if you want to go with TL-S or CL-S rims ...)
Cheers.

Thanks Derrick... I'd like to get the Eibach Pro kit first then see about type s rims or ??? - but budget restraints will have most mods on hold until I can pay cash... trying to be (relatively) debt free...
Question for AMGala - I noticed on this thread - https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=602066&page=2
that initially you had the CL rims and Goodyear 225/50/17 and then you updated with a spacer... Did you add the 10mm spacers because it was it rubbing on the inside or the outside of the wheel well? (you indicated that you had to cut the tabs because of the spacers) Just trying to learn more...
Thanks

IMO, i would get the TL-S wheels as it belongs on the TL and i think it looks better. And for the tire size on it, i would follow AMGala's advice.
He added spacers on there so the wheels can stick out more, to make it more flush. Bringing the wheel out too much and you'll rub.

Thanks for your input.
I finally "saw" the difference between the CL and TL wheels... subtle but it's there... both look nice though...
Thanks again for eveyone's input.

do yourself a favor...
save that cash and wait for the wheels you REALLY want. I decided I was going to go with some 3G wheels.. ended up selling them on the black market before they were even mounted($200 profit), then I decided I would try some 05 RSX-S wheels and once again I sold them on the black market before i even mounted. So i bought somethin nicer.. 19s with a 2.5 inch lip.. drove em for a month and got tired of the pussy size and offset so I sold em and just bought some staggered work varianzas in 19x9... trust me the mod bug bites hard. learn from my experience and wait for the wheels you really want you will not dissapoint yourself
