New tires for 2002 TL-S

Hi all,

anybody have any recommendation for tires that will last at least 7 to 10 years with low mileage? I don't do that much driving. Current the original tires that came with my Type S are 7 years old and only at 25000 miles in it. But due to the age, I have been force to do it.

Thanks in advance.

Tire Rack would be your friend ... there are a lot of recommendations there by many people (Acura owners included). I take it you're not one who will drive the TL like you stole it and you are also budget conscious.

I'm not sure if you face all 4 seasons where you live, so that may affect what type of tire you want. If you live south of the Mason-Dixon line, then you would be fine with a summer tire -- I don't think you would ever see snow in any extensive amount.

However, if you want that little 'peace of mind' then go with an "all-season" tire. I've had good experience with the Kumho AST (parent's Volvo) and Toyo Proxes4 (on my TL-S). You can also check out the Yokohama Avid V4S since that has been well-regarded here as well.

Many choices suiting various budgets. Have a look and see what prices you can get either online (ie tires.com, tirerack.com) or a local tire dealer.

Good luck.

Bridgestone Potenza 960 AS Pole Positions come (IIRC) with a 40,000 mile warranty. Not sure on time/years.

Most tires won't last 7 to 10 years because of the rubber compound tends to deteriorate when exposed to ozone in air and UV in sunlight.

I wish that were entirely true, as I hate cold weather and the snow/ice that go along with it. The Mason-Dixon line really isn't that far South since it is in MD. I live in Northern VA and grew up in Central VA and we do luck out and have some mild winters, but we've also had winters with several significant snowfalls (some 18"+) and lots of ice/sleet storms.

Agree. I would never try to push a tire that long. Rubber and age dont mix.

Thanks all, I am looking at tirerack.com for some time now. And I was thinking Yoko Avis W4S or V4S. I live in the "Northern VA" (NOVA) area. It is so hard to find a good place to take advantage of and enjoyed the "Type-S" around NOVA. My friend keeps telling to go the Costco for the tires for the excellent warranty and free nitrogen but all they have is Michelin and I think it is way too much to put into a car that drove 25000+ in 7 years.

Northern Virginia people, anybody uses Tires Plus or TireVan?

I was thinking about going with Fuzion VRi and Tires Plus has them for $67 each which is hard to believe since tirerack.com has them at $91 each.

I am also looking at TireVan which has the Yoko V4S including mobile installation for $705.35 including tax and installation. The price is comparable to Tire Rack.
