Koni Yellows
Koni Yellows
Well yesterday i got the chance to play around and finally install them. (Thanks Excelerate, and no i didnt make a diy)
When coupled to the H&R sport springs the ride is phenomenal. I rides far better than the KYBs i had. The ride is smooth and very compliant, turn in and response is much better and much more responsive. There is less roll and dive and i have reduced axle hop by a good 70%. This all on the softest setting. On the firmest setting the ride is still good, but it does like to let you know of the expansion joints and dips in the road (a little to firm for daily driving). This setting the car is very track orientated. Havent played with mixing and matching settings much but i will as time goes.

I run mine on the street at 1/3 firmness and it feels great.
I just wish I could get at the rear adjusters without pulling the rear seat.
I love my Konis!

Also, if you can find them, look for the knob w/line adjustment system that comes with the Megan Coilovers. Gives you, say, 4 - 6 inches of extra reach to the dampening adjuster. Do NOT know if they'd fit the Koni adjuster knobs.

Thanks again Kris and you're welcome.
We have pricing on the KONI's on our web store at http://store.excelerateperformance.com
Also if you don't mind waiting for a couple weeks just get the KONI SP3 shocks; they have more perches and a shortened shaft for lowering springs. They are $580 shipped to the cont US

i love my koni's. i rode on the lowest setting for about 2 months and found it to be too harsh (225/35/19 tires). it rides much better on the stock perch. I'd like to know if you have the same sentiments fsttyms1
I havent gotten them on the lowest setting yet. I will probably try today when i install my new sways. I have 18s and H&Rs and dont think it will be to harsh, but i will find out and post back. Superb. When you installed the shocks did you adjust the rebound of the shock before installing them (flipping the shock and compressing it to adjust)?? I have 360/180 deg of turn on mine and the top damp adjust i have 2/1 turns on and it rides great. Full soft its better than stock for smooth.

. for the tops i have the same 2/1 turns and find that to be very comfy
Initially I had mine on low and it was very harsh and my 225 50 17's scraped I put it in the middle and it was better but a bit harsh and still some scraping, at the higest perch it is a like stock and no scraping.
At 1/3 firmness it is a perfect balance between firm and soft.
I love that I can totally change the setup from high/soft to low/firm.

How could I have missed this thread?!?!
I love my Koni Yellows. They're not on the 2G TL but rather my 02 Z28. Combined with lowering springs, it rides like stock but handles incredibly well. Many people who ride in the car are surprised by the gentle ride. Nosedive under braking and squat during acceleration is much less exaggerated. The car now corners flat, instead of leaning out of the turns.
According to a vendor on another site, the lower spring perch is recommended only for stock springs, in order to lower the car just a bit without actually getting lowering springs. Not sure how it is on the TL but the vendor lowering it over 1.5" AND using the lower spring perch could result in premature shock failure.
IMO the firmest setting is way too stiff, I guess its an option if you use it on the lower spring perch or you have adjustable coilover sleeves, and your suspension travel is pretty much nonexistent.

Did you ever make the hole? I pulled my seat yesterday to make it firmer and it looked like I would not be able to reach the adjuster and I don't want to make holes for nothing.
I'd really like to be able to adjust without pulling the seat (although I took the opportunity to fully clean/condition/protect the seat with numerous leather products.
I agree, IGTC firmest rattles my fillings & hurts my kidneys.

I was going to get koni str.t's but found a really good deal on some yellows. When I go to install, I'll probably try to fashion something up to prevent the need to take out the rear seats to adjust the shocks. I'll post an update after I get back from vacation and install.
The lower perch is 20mm lower. It didnt really change the ride of the car at all. Any difference can be made up with adjusting the dampening settings.
Honestly, i dont remember where im at now. It was somewhere in like 3-4 clicks (shock off car, spring off shock shock inverted and compressed)
ill be running bmw 7 series wheels 9Jx19 ET15 / 10Jx19 ET15 im thinking of running like a 235 40 in front and 245 40 in the rear? i want the bottom of the fender to line up with the wheel so kinda tucking tire. but would want to do the same on 18s

I can't wait to see you kill those twisties at a road racing event. Definately an upgrade, great buy.

Either on Konis or something with adjustability
