I DO NOT want to screw this up!

Let me say first off, these questions are mostly directed at fsttyms01!

I've decided to go with the same suspension setup as you, koni sports and h&r sport springs.

Now....... Obviously I'm gonna need the struts and springs, what else will I need to make this setup work.....

I read some pages back that the 3g TL bushings are far superior to the 2g ones, so I plan on getting those, but need to know how they get put together on the strut, along with any other parts I will need (top hats I'm thinking, bump stops, boots...)

I plan on keeping the oem setup complete so I can swap them in and out as weather conditions require.

So far I'm on track to making the Gingerman Raceway event Memorial Day weekend, (South Haven, MI)and don't want any huge snags in the way!

I've learend soooooooo much from all of you about this platform, and take everything into consideration, except for fstty's word, I take that as the Word of the Lord!!!

Thank you in advance for any words of wisdom or !!!

follow the diagram

Front

Rear

I believe those bushings will replace #4 in the front and #7 in the rear.. (do the fronts even fit?)

As for the Koni shocks, you'll also need to bore out some of the stock hardware as the koni shocks do have a thicker shaft.

And you will have to swap the OEM top hats onto your new setup. OR! you can buy new top hats and put those on since you'll get new rubber on those as well.(#5 & #8 for Front / #8 & #9 for Rear)

On the left is the 08 type-s bushing. on the right is from a 2006 TL.
as you can see, the 08 bushing has the washer built in, as opposed to just the rubber in the 06 bushing.

you will need to drill the 08 bushing to accommodate the larger shaft of the koni yellows.

here is a better explaination:

The shocks should have included new larger diameter sleeves and washers (no bushings). You will need to use the sleeves from the Koni kit and toss the washers. If you did not get the sleeves in your kit, contact Koni for replacments.

Now whenever Honda makes a performance version of a car, they always use this special style of top-hat bushing. They are found on the Integra Type-R, Civic SIR, the S2000 and now the TL Type-S. Because these bushings have integrated washers inside the rubber, it is necessary to drill out the hole in the bushing to make room for the larger diameter shock shaft. This is common issue in the Type R forum on Honda-Tech.

If you look at the captions in the following link, you will see what I mean:

the only thing im not sure of is; if you buy new top hats, wouldnt they come with bushings already installed?

so that means you would be spending extra on something you already have.
but for the sake of performance; i'd get the type-s bushings.
you can find them at heeltoeauto.com

If I remember the post correct, he drilled them out to 5/8

Do the bump stops have to be cut? Drilling is a must I'm guessing for the Koni's.

the bump stops are like a foam/rubber type of material.
after examining it, i just pushed the bump stop over the koni shaft.

I cut a little bit of the bump stop to account for my shorter spring than stock

OK, ordering time!

I know I need the tophats all the way around, (4,8 front - 8,9 rear) also 8 of the 08 TL-S bushings.

How about anything else beside the bumpstops and dust covers (12,7 front - 10,12 rear)?

As always, thank you everyone for your valuable info!
