Continental Etreme contact DW and DWS
Anybody ever use these tires? Looking to buy some good summer tires.
based on tire rack reviews and pricing, these are the ones i'm looking at . http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...45&diameter=17 |
I bought dws recently and after having two out of round tires replaced, i still was not happy with the tires. Side walls are super thin which makes for a smooth ride but compromised handling a little more then I would have liked. Returning all four this week under warranty and picking up a set of dw and crossing my fingers.
Should have gone with the yokohama's like I usually do and just dealt with the louder road noise |
Yokohama "YK520" now "AVID ENVigor" for DD (Zero to NONE Road Noise) Works OKAY to do Some Turns.
Yokohama "S. Drive" for Spirited Driving (More Road Noise) It has an Awesome Grip Turning. Im a Yokohama Purist since EVA. |
A local dealer is having a sale on general exclaim uhp...are they worth it?
|
Dunno About them
I have tried: BFG: They where OKAY but got wall defects too easily. Continental: Wayyy Tooo Noisy Hankook: Stay Miles Away FALKEN: BUY BUY BUY Yokohama: My Choice. With the Size your looking you are in the Yokohama ADVAN terrain: The "S.4 is an Awesome All Season with Good Overall Tread Life. The "Neova AD08" is the Most Grippy of All but has a Terrible Life and More Road Noise. The "AO48" well the Name Says it ALL... The Competition Tire. I havent Used the AO48 bc well I dont need to hahaha but I have tested the other ones I mentioned... |
Will it make a difference if I go with 225-45-17 instead of 50?

I have the DW. They are a GREAT tire. performance and ride are outstanding. Quiet, good in the rain as well.

I have had them as well and were a great tire. Softer sidewall but handled great, were very quiet and got great treadware out of them. |

I am contemplating going with the DWS to replace a one-year old set of Yokohama Avid ENVigor's. The Yoko's have less than 6000 miles on them and the tread is more than half gone, and they are DAMN NOISY. Decent cornering but at that price and expecting much better mileage, I won't be fooled again.
I know a lot of the TSX guys really like the DWS as a good 4-season tire. More searching of long-term reviews in my future today, I think... ;) |
Mixed reviews on the Dw-s I see!!
|
I have had the DWS for two winters now. Best tire I have had on this car. Obviously I had the stock Michelins, then Yoko Avid v4s which were horrid. I would definitely buy the Contis again if I have the car at that point.

Also i put the DWS on my dads Hyundai Genesis Sedan to replace the shittastic dunlops it came with. He loves them. Quiet, great grip, he has a dedicated set of snows but has driven them in snow and they did very well.
|
the dws are nice i think they have superior grip in any type of weather especially ice and snow great all year long tire. the road noise is only bad when there cold cause they flat spot, after about 10 min of driving there smooth as can be.

They're going to be strictly summer tires. I already have winters.
Getting pricing for exclaim and s.4s. We'll see! I'll ask the price for dws also just to compare! |
Just want to note that this is my first set of all season tires evar! Always spoiled myself with extreme summer tires so this was a big change for me. Other then my bad luck with out of round tires and also experiencing flat spotting they road well on the freeway and handled well for what it is. Continental has a great warranty by the way. If I had to deal with light snow and only had one set of tires the DWS would be a good choice from all the reviews that I have read. I have a Subaru for when I make it up to the snow with appropriate tires (yokohama geolanders a/t) which is why I switched from DWS to DW summer tires for my TL.

Looks like the over diameter between the 45s and 50s is .9"!
Gonna leave a bigger gap witch i dont want!! Going with the 225-50-17. |
continental dws
conti dws- soft sidewalls- got a big bulge after local driving less than 10 k on them. never had that problem with my bridgestones or kumho's over 130k. softer ride overall too bc of the softer sidewalls, but worse cornering.
i expect the snow portion of the tire to wear away before the 25k mark- and then they would be just dry/wet tires. I will go back to dedicated snow tires, and consider d/w only tires. |
Have extreme contact dws...best tires I've ever had...super quiet and soft....
|
just picked up a set of DWS on Gen 3 rims. Seem okay, some noise but not bad... I haven't played yet.. I did notice the speedo is showing 4-5 miles slower than the old stock set up... I just have to be mindful as I have a lead foot and 65 mile daily commute..
|
Love mine. Had them for about 2 years. Best all arounder i've ever had. Not great at any one thing, VERY good at everything. Word of warning, BALANCE at LEAST twice a year. They have alot of road force and you need to make sure to keep them in balance or they will cause you problems.
