Best Upgraded Tire Size on Stock 01 TL Rims?

What's the best size to put on the 01TL Rims? I mean....they're currently 205/60/16...theoretically, the next step up should be 215/55/16...(according to Costco's formula) what's the talk about about 225/55/16? How would the 225/55/16 benefit and "properly fit"?

225/55-16!! I've ran that for the past 11k miles... increase grip/traction, looks better, and not much more expensive over oem size. btw, dont stick with the stock michellin's... go for something else (like summer tires since you are in socal too) cuz they are way overpriced for what you get!

Yup, go with 225/55/16. Stay the hell away from the stock Michelins!

I'm a Costco person...the tires they stock there for the 205/60/16V are Bridgestone Turanza LS-Vs....The tires they have that I want are BF Goodrich Traction T/A Vs....(225/55/16)--I use those on my Lexus SC and I love them. I've heard ppl say I should use the 225/55/16....so I think I will. Thing is, any difference in fuel economy or anything like that? Why not use 215/55/16--following the rule that states push up the 205 up by 10 to 215 and pull down the 60 to 55?

check out this site

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

It'll give you all the specs for each tire size.

Don't forget, increasing the width will reduce your gas mileage a bit due to increase drag but also better traction.

Do you get any rub on the side if you turn both side maximum? In addition, do you have stock suspension & drop?

Tire Help

I am posting this here instead of a new thread - since there are probably too many of them already

I need tires for my wife's 02 TL. I am most interested in the Falken ZE-512's or the Avid V4S. I do not know what to do about tire size. I guess I have always bought whatever was on the car - but I have searched through the forum threads and many are saying to go bigger tire (ie 215/55, 225/55). This is the car my wife drives my 3 year old in - so I am not interested so much in "the look" etc. I want them safe. Are there any concerns with putting a bigger tire on the stock rim? I see this info on the tire sites - seems OK to go 225, but I thought I read someone said some places will not put a 225 on the stock rim??
Can anyone please provide some helpful info or opinion/personal experience? Again 2002 3.2TL, Stock rim.
Thanks.

if you really arent looking for any performance there isnt a need to go wider.
but if your looking for looks than the plus size is what you will need to do.
either a 215 or 225 will work. the spedo will be slightly off with a 215

as for the size some wont mount that size on the rim. like i said above, ive been running a 225 for around a150,000 miles now with out issue on my 2000 TL
