Best Spring/Shock Combo?

I've been wanting to lower my TL ever since the day I got it. I don't have enough money for coilovers and it will take forever if I plan to save up for them. So my question is.. how should I go about this? I've been doing research lately and found that either go with H&R or Eibach? And believe me when I said I have done research.. there are millions of threads just as there are millions of choices to choose from. I want some of your opinions and the best road I should take for springs/shocks. I need to get them changed out soon anyways since the previous did nothing to really maintain the car.

What is the best spring/shock combination for the best ride/comfort? I want it low, but not low to the point where the tires rub against the fender wells. I don't plan to spend more than $350, so that's around my budget. Do you think I can pull it off? I've been searching the black market lately.. but no one seems to be selling shock/spring combos.

spring + shock = <$350

get the H&R sports 50103

if i were to do springs again.. i'd probably go with those.

IF i were planning on getting shocks down the road...

i'd probably get the race springs and pair them with Koni shocks

save up like $200 more and the let me know. we can go get some coilovers for you.

And i will certainly think about saving up a few just to get those coilovers. But jeez.. acurazine is making me want more and more for my car hahaha. I swear.. it happens to everyone.

Is eibach a good brand for springs for acuras? i was lookin at some springs for 1.5" drop both front and rear for 250. Koni shocks the sport ones yellow color for 376 a pair.

I found that this is not a good car (acura tl type-s) to drop because of the wheel wells (depending on the wheel size) and the front end drops too low for most driveways where i live.

Any suggestions?

Eibach is a reputable brand. Personally i feel the H&R OE Sports are the perfect drop with the car being slightly lower to eliminate the wheel gap and not have the slammed look. It should of came from the factory with the H&R OE Sport springs.

I agree.. I'm probably gonna go with H&R and either tokico or koni shocks.. I was gonna think about going with H&R sports and stock shocks.. but since my struts are old.. I don't really want to risk it. But yeah.. I don't know how Acura never thought of putting those H&R as stock springs.. they made our cars look like 4x4's. =/

Shocks..

You might want to consider KYB GR-2 shocks as something cheap, but probably a step better than the stock shocks. All 4 from Tire Rack for $232+shipping. Add in the H&R Sport Spring set for 231, and all totalled is going to run close to $500 for all shocks & springs. That's about as least expensive as you can get for decent quality stuff.

Here's my I had tokico illuminas with the eibachs. The eibachs settled quite a bit over 2 years, and never rode as nice as oe. One of the rear illuminas developed a whistling noise. I put on the h&rs, with kyb agr adjustable shocks, and the difference is substantial. The springs look almost identical on paper, but look a lot different, especially the rear, in real life. The bottom 3 coils on the eibachs are "bound" with the weight of the car on them. This leaves less spring to actually suspend the car. Even from day 1, I had to use spacers to get the car to look level. I am having no such problems with the h&rs. The ride is as good or better than stock.

I just removed stock set up and installed Eibach's spings and dampers this weekend... so far so good... ride is very comfortable - hieght could be lower but this is supposed to be a luxury sedan and my wife and I use it as a family car with the kids - so it sits fine for its intended purpose.

Assault tech (vendor here) gave me a great price and shipped next day free and no tax... couldn't pass it up

Negative! Koni sp3 and H&R> all.

Coilovers are a pain to adjust and in bad weather climates dont tend to last

So Kris you think that H&R are the best springs available?

I dont have any need for coilovers.. I don't want it slammed. I just want it lowered. Spring/struts are the way to go. I don't think shocks really matter as long as they are more durable than the stock shocks.. gonna go look at KYB and probably go with H&R springs.

I went with H & R sport springs + Bilstein sport shocks and couldn't be happier. This setup was basically the same price as the Tein basic coilovers but I knew I wasn't going to bother adjusting them and it's a lot easier to replace a shock than a coilover down the road if necessary. Plus Bilstein has a better warranty than Tein. The only reason I was considering coilovers is that I have read some posts on here that say it's beneficial to have both components made my the same company because they are designed to work with each other. I still don't know if this is true or not. . .Other people say the only benefit of coilovers is that it gives you the power to adjust your suspension

have that exact setup and it actually rides quite nice, think like a german car (firm but forgiving on larger bumps), maybe just a little better,
only thing i would complain about it is that the front springs have sagged some (driver side a little more) over the past 5-6 years, so i actually had to move the spring perch on the rears down to the lower setting to leval it out, but i just did that last month (could have been done sooner though)

also the tein basics, i think you can only change the spring perch height and not actually the valving inside, but it would make it easier to compensate for springs sagging, but i had a set of slip-on coilovers on my old accord and they were a pain in the ass to adjust to level (alot courser thread then teins though), but i think with the drop springs i would just toss them on and call it good without actually measuring as long as it looked level

I've had HR Sports on my car since 2004 and about 80K miles on stock shocks...my car still rides great and the drop is pretty much perfect for my taste. Very comfortable on highway..many folks have told me that it seems my car doesn't ride like a lowered car...so, get the HR Sports 50103 and call it a day. I'm probably due for some shocks so its between the Blues, Illuminas or Koni's...based on Kris' feedback, i may go Koni when i need new struts. Coilovers would be cool, but I don't really think i would be adjusting my ride height enough to warrant a setup like that
