best offset and tire size for 17x7.5 on a 03 TL
Hi. i'm currently helping my father to shop for some wheels for his 03 TL. the wheels will be 17x7.5" for sure. a few days ago when I searched a bit, I found some people had problem with too low offset. I can have good price on "Fast Wheels" and this manufacturer simply recommend 40mm or more for the offset. I know my father won't be happy if he gets rubbing, so we need to find a wheel that will fit perfectly.
i have pretty much the choice between 4 models of wheels
two of them have 43mm offset
one have 42mm offset
one is available in 40 and 48mm offset.
as far as tire goes, even if the TL type S come with 215/50R17, I feel like those are skinny for such an heavy car. I feel like 235/45R17 would be more appropriated, and I just discovered that this is what now come like OE on new TL's. so wich offset, and wich width (215, 225,235 or 245 ?)

Don't get the 40 offset. I had 17 x 7.5 with a 40 offset and 215/50/17 and I had to get rid of them because my tires were actually SHREDDING and I'd start rubbing over every pothole. Learned my lesson the hard way.

what are the chance of tire rubbing in normal driving condition with 235/45R17 and 42 or 43mm offset wheels ? the 48mm ones i was looking for are not available yet. does going with 225 instead of 235 would help to reduce the chance of tire rubbing?
