About Lowering.....hmmm
Well I've gotten some mixed suggestions from some friends. I am not sure whether I should purchase a coilover set (tein/F&F), or just get some springs and shocks. Suggestions?

how low do you want to go? how much are you willing to compromise? are you willing to pay to play?
generally, the lower you go, the more expensive your life becomes (tires, camber kit, oil pans, blown shocks, etc)

I love my Tein's. However there are things they're not so good at. But for 90% of my driving they're perfect. I think that sways are in my future.

Otherwise if you want Type 2's get our XLR8 ISC coilovers.

Just put on my new xlr8 isc coilovers and so far so good. love the ride quality. If your wanting to go with just the basic coilovers ive heard that others would have just saved an extra 200 bucks and gotten the higher quality for the dampening adjustment because the basic coilovers they purchased were to soft. but im fairly new at all this myself so thats just my thought.

Coilovers. Spring shock combos never settle how you want them too. Coils are fully height adjustable. F&F's work well, they have great height adjustment, esp if you want to go really low. Not a fan of low end Teins (basic and SS), very little height adjustment. High end Tein line is amazing though. Ksport has great coils with a ton of damping adjustment. or you could always go air!

What would produce a smoother and more comfortable ride? A coilover system or lowering springs. I'm looking to drop 3-5 Inches from stock. Also which is more cost effective?

If you want maximum comfort and a 3" drop I'd recommend the TEIN Street Advance coilovers. Set the damping at full soft.

I have the Form/Function Type1s.
Bought it brand new.
At first, I can feel every small bump on the road but eventually wears out
Got the coilovers for 600 with shipping
It also depends on your budget
Form/Function Type2s has a 32-way Damping Set which allows you set your ride quality if you want them to be stiff or soft depending how you feel about your ride quality
Its at least 200-300$ more but if you want them used I suggest the black market
Some of them are on for sale right now so GLWB!

It depends on the coilover or lowering spring. That being said you will not be able to get a 5" drop. Even a 3" drop will require coilovers; the more you drop the more firm it is.

I had ff type 1 on my acura cl and the ride was harsh. I live in san francisco and we have bumpy roads and pot holes, along with the coilovers I was running 18's. As for the build quality I think they are crap, one of the shocks blew less than 1 year and 5k miles, although their warranty was fairly easy to deal with. replaced the part free because I was under warranty. I stay away from form/function coilovers

I'm hoping to find some under $700, grab some Katana 18s & go to work by the end of the year.

Hey Xakura21, check out the Black Market sub-forum and also post a "WTB". Ya may get lucky and find a used set at a good price. If ya got your mind set on what ya want.....the sooner ya round up the parts, the sooner you'll be able to enjoy it this summer. Don't wait until too late in the year, just GIT R DUN !!!!

no problems with F&F Type 1s here. i only had to replace one because it seized due to my own negligence. the shock was still good though. it was 100 bucks to replace the shock body and lower mount because i was out of warranty.

Tein's on our roads are pretty much money. Any harsher and you'll ruin your kidneys. Any softer and well you're still boating.
