+45 w 235/40/18?

I love the Axis Se7en mod but they are +42. I don't want to hack my fender and put on tires that are smaller than spec.

What do you think of the Katana VR6. 18x7.5 +45? Would I be able to put 235/40/18 on these without rubbing no CT springs?

Your question and sig are confusing to me. Do you have CT springs or not? Without a drop, you'll be good. With any drop, you will be in for some moderate trimming. That said, the car will look wierd with a 40 series tire and no drop. A high 40's or +50 offset will resolve your concerns.

Hehe, typo. Should say "on" CT springs.

So the questions are for a CT drop, 18x7.5 +45

1. will i rub on 235/40/18
2. will i rub on 225/45/18 (slightly taller but narrower)

Thanks

1. You may rub on the outer tops of your rear fenders if you ever have a full load (2+ passengers in your back seat) and sling it sideways in a turn or something. For normal usage you will not rub.

2. I dont think you will have a problem here.

You will want to stick with 40 for the sidewall anyways. For a 18x7.5 wheel the best tire is 225/40/18 and you may be able to get away with 235/40/18 with a +45 offset or higher ofcourse.

The ideal wheel and tires sizes for 18's are as follows:

18x7.5 +45 with 225/40/18
18x8 +50 with 225/40/18 or 235/40/18

225/40/18 is NOT optimal. It is smaller than stock by 0.5 inches. The only reason it is popular is that it is cheaper, less likely to rub, and more readily available.

225/45/18 is about .3 inches larger than stock.

My entire reason for going from the wheels I love (Axis Se7en Mod) to ones that look similar (Katana VR6) is to go from +42 to +45 offset and avoid having to under-tire my car with 225/40/18's

Well, my 2 cents is you will rub with the drop and the +45, 235/40/18. Probably not much with the CT springs. I have the Eibach ProKit with +45, 18x8 O.Z. Superleggera's. The tire makes a slight difference. When I had 235/40/18 Yoko AVS dB's, I trimmed the plastic and all was good. I recently replaced them with Bridgestone SO-3's and they rub a little so I have to go back a finesse it. The ProKit drop is more than the CT drop so a little plastic trimming should be all that's required.

One of the following:

Axis Se7en Mod 18x7.5 +42

pro : I love them!!!
con : offset means rubbing and probably fender rolling

Katana VR6 18x7.5 +45

pro : I like them a lot, almost as much as Se7ens, cheaper than Se7en's, better fitment and therefore tire options
con : don't like them QUITE as much

From pictures I am inclined to go with Katana because they look almost the same. I wonder if it will be true in person though...

IMO you should go with the Axis Se7en 18x7.5 +42 offset with 225/40/18 tires. We are talking about 3 mm difference from the ideal offset +45 and shaving that Tab will give you more then enough clearance.

Also, Can't remember who, maybe someone on AW. They are running 18x7.5 +42 without rubbing with a drop.

235/40's are spec'd for a minimum wheel width of 8". But I know that won't deter you since you've already mounted 245's on a 6.5" wheel in the past.

I need new tires for my 18x8 Lowenhart Speedstars (+52 offset), and I want to know if I can get by with 235/40/18 without rubbing. And yes, I am lowered on H&R Sport Springs (1.75"). I want to upsize the current 225/40/18 tires in order to decrease the harshness of the dropped ride, but I don't want any rubbing issues whatsoever.

Anyone have any input? A search provided too much information to sift through.

Did you already trim the bumper tab? You should be fine clearing the fender lip

If you alreay have the 225's I would just keep them. 235's won't change the ride that much. But if you really have your mind made up I would say that they would work without any rubbing at all. It's good that you have such a high offset. I have 19x8 +49 with 235/35/19 and I trimmed the tabs and no rubbing.

Oh and what are Lowenhart Speedstars, never heard of them? I know that they are 2 different companies, Lowenhart and Speedstar(SSR). Didn't know Lowenhart made a wheel called Speedstar? Got any pics?

I'll tell you some of you guys are lucky. I have 18x7.5 +45 w/ 225/45-18 and I still rub. And my tabs are cut. I originally had 235/40-18 but they rubbed bad and stuck out alittle bit which bothered me. The 225 are tucked in now but I still rub. I think I am going to have to cut the tabs on the rear bumper where the fender and bumper meet.

I think the wheels are called Speedstars. At least that's what's imprinted on the inside. They're definitely Lowenhart though. I've never seen these wheels on the road, so it's possible that I have the only set in existence I can email a pic if you're interested. Can't seem to post it though

I think you are just unlucky. I would say like 98% of the people with that set up do not rub.

i have the same setup and i did rub in the back but i cut my tabs and rolled my fenders. the back wheel is tucked but the front sticks out. i have bfgoodrich gforce sport 235/40/18 rims are 18/7.5 offset. im agraid to lower it how i wanted (with H&R springs with Bilstein shocks) but im afraid the front will hit the fender really bad.

would the stiffer spring and shock keep the tire from bouncing up as high or should i just not lower it. i dont know if i would get the OE kit or the 1.5" drop
