You'll rub not on the size of the tire but:

1) how low you are
2) offset of rims you're gonna use

For example: I have 235/40/18 tires on 18x7.5" rims with +48 offset. I'm lowered on Koni Yellows + Tein H.tech springs. I have rubbed once on the driver's rear side. If I cut the tabs in the part that rubs, I won't have problems.

Another example: Pure Adrenaline has 235/40/18 tires on 18x7.5" rims but with +42 offset. He's on TeinSS coilovers. He rubs like a mofo if he's on soft settings when he drives like he stole a car. He's rolled the fenders and cut tabs and he still rubs when he's not on the stiffest settings and drives wrecklessly. (sorry to use you as an example ... LOL)

Goes to show you -- do your homework when you buy rims/tires. If you go 225/40/18, you'll less likely rub but it's not as close to 215/50/17 tire circumference (Type-S OEM size).

Would 225/45-18 be a good option?

The computed diameter is 26.0" compared to the 99TL OE of 25.7" (205/60-16). This is assuming the mentioned set-up of 18 x 7.5 and +48 offset.

im not lowered at all, but i'll be lowering it using H&R Sports with Koni Yellows.

the Offset is +48 on the rims. so i guess i wont be rubbing much at all right? thanks for the info derrick.

also, would it help if i got a spacer? like 5 or 10mm one?

Thumbs up

hey aaronn ,just put on some 18x7.5 - 48mm offset - 235/40/18 p-zero's with tein ss drop , you only have to trim the tabs in the rear and everything will be fine ,even with two people in the back seat i don't rub,, + i'm just a tad lower than h&r sports,,, hope this helps ... danny

A spacer is necessary if your rims have problems clearing brake calipers (esp for a big brake kit). If you're still using OEM calipers, it's not likely you'll need a spacer. In fact, you will stick your rims/tires OUT MORE if you get spacers, which in turn, will increase the risk of major rubbing.

Go with what dcostatl recommends -- cut some tabs and you're good to go.
