225/55/16

If you want to know why, go here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

This has been discussed numerous times.....

In short, use stock size for better mpg. Use 225/60/16 more sticky, safer, less mpg. About 10%, not a big deal.

Sorry, it's 225/55 not 225/60 it's getting late.
I am driving Avid V4S 225/55 myself, it's great.

225/55/16 on stock wheels don't really look like a true 55 sidewall cuz it bulges over slightly... it still has pretty thick look to it, though not as bad as the stock tires.

I would say go with the 215 if you are concerned about sidewall height. The 225's will still look big because the aspect ratio stayed the same. If you go with the 215/55/16, your overall diameter will drop by about an inch. One other thing to be careful of is the lower profile, the more wheel well space it will create. So if you're already dropped, it will make the gap a little bigger.

no, my 215/55 snow tires and my 225/55/16 summer tires at 80 are less than 1 mph difference between the 2. there isnt a 1nch difference. the 225 is 25.7 dia and the 215/55 is 25.3 dia. Either way it stays at or just below the stock dia

Maybe I wasn't clear...
If you put on 215/55/16 your overall diameter will decrease by just under an inch from your stock tires. That will increase the wheel gap. For example, when I replaced my stock type s tires with 225/45/17, I increased my wheel gap.
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
215/60-16 5.1in 13.1in 26.2in 82.2in 771 0.0%
215/55-16 4.7in 12.7in 25.3in 79.5in 797 -3.2%

Stock tire size for the Type-S is 215/50/17 which is between 25.5 and 25.7 overall dia (depending on tire manuf.

Stock tire size for the TL-P is 205/60/16 which is between 25.5 and 25.7 also.

like i stated before plus sizing to a 215 or 225 will keep you with in less than half a inch overall dia. The 225/55 is 25.7 dia and the 215/55 is 25.3 dia. When mounted on a car it comes to less than ]1/8 inch shorter (or more wheel gap, which you will not be able to see teh difference

225/45 is too small a dia and you will notice the 1/2 or slightly more overall dia. 235 would have been the correct dia for a 45 series.

Ok, I see where you are coming from with that now. He said that he has 215/60 on there right now so I assumed that was the stock tire. As you can see in my last post, I compared the tires he has on there to the tires he was thinking of getting. The diameter of the ones he has now are 26.2 whereas the diameter of the ones he was thinking of getting is 25.3. So that is a difference of .9...almost an inch. Probably won't be that noticeable of a difference but I noticed it on my car when I changed the aspect ratio.

yea the 215/60 isnt the corect dia. if you can stay with in the 25.3-25.7 you wont notice a difference and your spedo will be damn near spot on
