215-60-17

I was planning on getting new tires.....and needed more luxury since my wife drives the car....... so i was wondering if the tire size 215-60-17 would work on my 2003 TL-S......If so any recommendations and If not ? why not ?

Thanks in advance

it should fit fine if your stock (meaning not lowered ) but it might rub because your going with a high tire. why don't you go 215-50-17 ?? why 60 ??

DO NOT buy a set of 215 17 inch tires with a profile of 60. Like Zeus said, it will throw your speedometer way off because the tire is 6.23% different in size than the stock tire.
That is a dangerous amount of difference, you should stay within 3%.

Need more luxury you really need a lexus. Dont use a 215/60. Your speedo will really be off.

You will still be causing your speedo to be off. Get a good set of touring tires.

Stick with the 215/50/17, you can go 10mm wider (225/50/17), but going higher is not recommended... Just get a good Touring tire and be done with it, like fstyms1 (Kris) said.

225/50/17 is also recommended by tire makers for our TL-S 6.5" wide wheels.
In fact, 225 is the widest tire size recommended for 6.5" wheels with the same aspect ratio. Don't need to go for 7" wide wheels for 225/50/17.

Sr00064, if you want a more comfortable (= luxury ?) ride, go for the non Type-S tire size, 205/60/16. That should give you the 60 aspect ratio for the tires. But make sure you go for the "V" and above speed rated tires for the TL-S, not the H-rated ones.

what's so big a deal about speedo being off? just drive the same speed as everyone else and you'll be fine.

a rotation at the hub = a rotation on the tire.
so then a bigger tire would mean bigger circumference. which means for every turn of the hub you get more distance than a smaller tire. so the car thinks you're getting 100 miles on the odo when you're really getting 106. if you change your oil every 4500 miles what's the big deal?

unless i'm completely wrong about the hub/tire rotation. then disregard it.

...are u serious?...u start f*in up ur brakes, suspension and even tranny...ur wheels are goin to be spinning faster than what it says on ur speedo...wheel diameter is very important...

If it is for a car with stability control system (VSA, ESP, ...), it IS a big deal. The system is factory calibrated to work with the OEM wheel circumference. Any big deviation from OEM size will throw off the speed sensor measurements and negatively affect the effectively of the stability system to save your ass.

That would work with 16" wheels, but not 17". The overall diameter of 205/60/16 is nearly identical to 215/50/17, but the sidewall would be taller on the 205/60/16.

Because a larger tire like that does add more stress to things. It makes it harder on the brakes, bearings and other suspension components. Now it wont be as dramatic as say a 24" wheel but it does impact it some.

^thanx Kris....i jus saw this today....also my cousin messed up his tranny when he changed his rim and tire set up..he had the wrong size tires on there and one day "BOOM!!!!" we were stuck on the freeway...we towed it into the nearest shop and it ended up bein his tires were not the proper size...it was a newer Blazer at the time but he went with a different setup he bought off his friend.
