215/45-18

Has anyone done this tire size for 18s?

I did the calcs and compared to stock 205/60-16, the tire diameter is 25.618 inches compared to stock 25.685 inches, making it 0.26% smaller with almost no difference in the speedo. By far the closest in overall specs to OE.

Can this be added as another tire option along with a 225/40-18 (25.087 in) and 225/45-18 (25.972 in)?

It seems so. The idea came up when I was checking out the Mazda6. The OE tire is the same as the 2G TL (205/60-16) and the 18 inch wheel upgrade offers a 215/45-18 tire. The Mazda6 also suffers from the high offset (+55) we deal with.

Opinions?

215/45/18

having that size mounted on my wheels on Monday (june 19th). Original purchased 225/45/18 but the tire rubbed even after I had the fender lips rolled. The fender lips are not single sheet metal thickness all the way through so thet cannot be rolled completely. My choices were to get rid of the rims or find rubber that would fit. I hope these tires will work (they should).

Please post after your install. Interested in whether this will solve your rubbing problem. Can you also provide specs on your 18's (wheel width and offset)? I rub with rear passengers but I think rolling the fenders will solve it. But it would be good to know if 215/45s are also a possible solution.

Logically the skinnier 215 tire should provide the breathing room (0.1875 inches or 5mm) needed to cure all, or almost all, of the rubbing problem. Hope it does the trick for you.

Tires installed. They look good. Have to drive around with a loaded back to see if the rubbing is still there. Will let you know once I am sure the rubbing is no longer an issue.
My rims are 18x8 with 48 mm offset. Tires on there are 215x45x18.
Fenders have been rolled and tab has been shaved off.

the bigger question is wht offset you have. The offset is the biggest thing to look for on these cars. With a 8" width id go nothing lower than a +49 to help eliminate rubbing.

Do you have wheels on your ride? Also wanted an opinion on what would look better mesh wheels or a five or six star design wheels!? Have and seen mesh wheels on TL-S and liked them but have seen very little 5 or 6 spoke wheels on this type of car? Oh by tha way... thanks for the help!
