imo none of those go with 225/40/18 and whats the width and offset of your wheels?

Also do you want a stretched look?

235/40 is the closer to stock dia than the 225/40. (stock 25.7, 235/40 25.4, 225/40 25.1) 225/45 is closer yet 25.9.

Id prefer the 235 due to the wider tire.

That depends on the specs of your wheels and your drop

Note the minimum rim width recommended by tire manufacturers,

225/45/18 - 7"
225/40/18 - 7.5"
235/40/18 - 8".

the wheels i'm looking at are Enkei FD-05 (18 x 7.5 +45)

no drop for now. so it sounds like 235/40 is the better choice...

I would have to agree with '03 on this one, simply because you're choosing a 7.5" wide rim. You wouldn't meet the minimum 8" width required for 235/40 tires, as Edward noted.

You can fit the 235 x 40 x 18 on a 7.5 rim. I have that on my RonJons Chrome Inspyres. The wider tire looks better.

^^^^^ Sure a 235/40/18 tire can be mounted on even a 7" wide rim, but this is not what tire manufacturers recommend. It's like do it at your own risk.

Interesting ... I don't recall but when I installed Toyo Proxes4 235/40/18 on my Volk SE37 (7.5" rim), the guide I found from the Toyo site (at the time ... we're talking 2005) said the 235/40/18 could fit on a rim as 'narrow' as 7.5".

Perhaps the reference Edward'TLS is a 'standard' guide and some manufacturers have a little leeway depending on how they engineer the tire?

EDIT -- I checked the toyo.com website and the minimum width recommended on their PDF size sheet is 8.0" for a 235/40/18. I was probably dyslexic back in 2005 and saw the fitment for 225/40/18.

^ it can be done, its just not recommended. Just like mounting a 225/50/16 on the TL-P 6.5 wheel. Its supposed to go on a 7"+ but i ran it with Zero issues for over 200k

Just to clarify. Edward'TLS is not a "standard" guide. He is simply relaying safety information provided by the tire manufacturers to all fellow members. All recommended rim width for tire fitment is obtained from each manufacturer specs section in the Tirerack website and/or manufacturers' websites.

i have 235/40/18's on my Inspyres and their only 7.5 inches wide, and they work fine with no problems. the 235/40 series will fill the fender gap better than the 225/40. Ive had both and the 235/40 is the better choice in my opinion.

anyone know what the stock width is for the 04 a spec 18" rim please? they currently have 235/40/18 but the price jumps drastically up from the 225's etc. From the looks of how sidewall sits on the lip of the rim I'm guessing 8" because it looks like it would easily accomodate 245's. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.
