XM Radio reception using FM modulator on rear window antenna - Help?
Hey guys,
I just got a Delphi SkyFi3 to replace my SkyFi2. This piece of crap doesn't have a built in FM modulator/antenna thingy like the SkyFi2 did (which rocked. until I dropped it, I think.) Anyway, the SkyFi3 uses a external "FM modulator" that uses a metal contact that must touch the rear window antenna. Sounded simple enough, so I gave it a try.
Except it's not working...
I have 88.7 tuned in on the car radio and broadcasting on the SkyFi3. (Yes, I've tried higher channels)
I have tried placing the SureConnect FM modulator/antenna "metal contact" on the window where the cars antenna is. I've moved it all over the metal strips but can't get a signal at all.
Anybody have any experience with this type of thing?
Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Most FM Modulators require it to be plugged into the antenna. wire, not touching it.
Also are you sure you were touching the right wire?

Nope, this one either clips onto the actual physical antenna (metal external ones if the car has one). Or in my case, theres a piece to stick onto the metal antenna in the window...
I assume I'm trying the right wire. I looked in the service manual just to double check. It's the first few wires at the top of the rear window. You can see where the contact point comes out from the headliner.
If I ever find a business that wants to see me a Blitzsafe, I'll buy it asap. I just wanted a simple way to play some dang music while I'm driving using FM radio w/ out spending any more money on these useless electronics. Of course with my luck, the only cassette adapter I have only plays sound out of one side of the car. Meh, nothing has really gone right while I've had this car. My previous SkyFi2 had a great built in FM transmitter (until I dropped the unit, I think.)

Ha, easy fix.
When you have the direct FM modulator thing running, you can't have anything plugged into the LineOut/AudioOut port. Ha, unplugged it, and now it works fine. Not as good as the SkyFi2. But that's becase the FCC made Sirrious and XM stop selling the more powerful FM modulators bundled w/ the receivers. BOO to the FCC.
And yea, I called a local car audio shop to buy a Blitzsafe and the guy said he didn't like selling them because they were crap, broke, and customers always came back to him w/ non-functional units.
Is this a good place?
