From the dealership.....

Axle is loose, boot is torn, no grease left for the bearings so they're dry and shot. Because the axle is loose, they don't know whether it's related to a transmission problem or not.....and if it's a partly a transmission problem, they can't fix it under warranty from my replacement tranny because the warranty is only for "internal" failures not part of the drive train.

$105 for axle, like $150 for labor. We'll see.

Fixed. Driver's side axle for wobbling/vibration and motor mounts for rough gear changes/shifting.

took my car to the dealer and let the service manager take a spin and as soon as he felt it he said cv joints. so he is ordering them up and should be putting them on in the next few days. im so happy to get the wobble fixed it was getting on my nerves after a while.

I read this thread when it was first started. I'm starting to think that it was a curse. The day after I read the thread my TL started doing the same "wobble under acceleration". Anywho,,, it's at Acura of Seattle now. I'm waiting to hear back from them tomorrow.

Why is this happening to our cars? Also... why do our motor mounts need to be replaced so often? I love my TL, but, shite!! Can we catch a break or what?

I think my axle issues came from putting my aftermarket wheels on, and also from driving the car hard. You gotta pay to play. Honestly the car has held up very well for how I drive it

I have factory wheels. But I did just change to more aggressive tires. I think it's just normal wear. I'm at 96,000 miles. I don't drive the car hard. But, then again, that's relative.

My old car -- a ten-year-old Pontiac -- used to vibrate/wobble like crazy when the speed got up to about 55 or 60. (Specifically, the car would buck and lurch and handle much less smoothly.) I figured it was a suspension/tires/axle issue -- that the higher speeds were revealing some mechanical defect. I was wrong.

It turned out to have been one of the spark plugs not firing properly. Once it was fixed, everything was smoother. (Still never handled like a TL but that's another story!)

I don't think this is necessarily your problem but if everything else is OK you might need to look into other issues.

The stealership called this afternoon. Homie said that is was the passenger side axle. The inner joint was toast. The job is $680 total for that one side. OY!!

Oh well. That's the price you pay for the "A" on your trunk.

yea im waiting on parts for my car. they are replacing both axles cause you can't tell which one is bad and they don't want to be swapping stuff to try it out. so i think the total was almost a grand and they are picking up the tab. i honestly think it was from being lowered but i still can't see how that makes any more wear occur faster.

Yup.... That sounds alot better than $680.

Taking your "higher end" car anywhere in Seattle is never a wallet friendly event. Maybe they are secretly charging me for this loaner in the total price.

finished up my axles today and the problem is gone Mine was the passenger inner joint. Install was a bitch at first but once I got the hang of it things went smoothly. Note for anybody doing this yourself. You will need a 36mm axle socket, a balljoint puller, a massive breaker bar, a lot of beer, and maybe a blow torch. The car drives so well now, better than when i got it at 110k miles.

I just replaced my two axles in the front and the shaking stopped. GOOD THING it works, I been trying to fix it for a while now.... thought it was my rims, but it was my axles. My right one was leaking, so I just went ahead and changed them both..... NOW its back to that smooth ride and acceleration again.....

Perhaps i have the wrong name. But it was the joint closest to the intermediate shaft on the passenger side. When i pulled the axle out on that side, the old joint completely separated inside the boot. It was definitely the passenger side because i did the driver side on sunday and the problem was not fixed.

Isn't it great. I've been purposefully keeping the car at 55 mph just to feel the smoothness it has been lacking for the last 6 months. Before, I either had to keep it under 50 or over 60

You said the right thing. I just think that this passenger side inner joint is a trend. Like the front engine mount problem. And the warped dash problem.

Honda is good at ignoring common issues. Until they get sued.

I had the same issue but it was the driver's side.

Funny you mention the dash...yesterday I noticed the dash was wavy where the windshield vents are. Is that where you mean?

Eh- they had 130k+ miles on them when they went bad so cant complain. Havent had engine mount issues yet and the warped dash doesnt really bother me. So far in the almost 2 years of owning this car I have only put $1k into for repairs (700 of that was transmission labor) other than normal items like brakes/tires etc. Not too shabby.

Does anybody know where i can get a passenger drive axle??, I am from Hamilton, Ontario Canada.
I tried NAPA and only gotten the driver side, I have also tried Carquest, Partsource, Canadian Tire, Stealer (too expensive).
All of them have only the driver side which i will replace also but I think most of my vibration is from the passenger side.

Thanks

thanks ssmtl01 but it seems that we don't have those stores.
This part seems very popular, I got a hold of a 6 of local phone numbers for part stores by a mechanic and they all have the driver side only. The passenger they either don't have or is backordered. I guess i will have to order and wait.

Well maybe just change the drivers out for now and see if that fixes the problem

rebuilt driver side axle costed $110.00 canadian with lifetime guarranty from NAPA, same for the passenger side but can't get one.
The problem is that i have to do an alignment after the change so if i do the one side, then i got to do the alignment, then when i do the other side i got to do it again.....
I will keep searching.

Dealer wanted 450 Can just for the passenger side shaft.

I got both Axles for $110. It's not hard to install, just need the time! Saves alot of Cash of flow!! Just think about it the money you spend to get axles installed can be towards another mod. I mean their remans, but you can't turn away from the price!! If you have the $$$ to burn, then burn away!

OMNI Power upgrade Project, SPC Adjustable Camber kit coming this week(ME), also Soyboy26 Big Brake Kit conversion

you do NOT have to replace this. The new axle slides right into it. Its basically just an extension piece from the tranny.

Only under acceleration (foot on the gas). It went away when coasting/braking. If it happens all the time its most likely a balance/alignment/bent wheel issue.
