Why would the maintenance required light come on around 38000 miles?

Why would the maintenance required light come on around 38000 miles?
The light started blinking when I start the car sometime around 38000 miles, I cant remember exactly and now I'm at about 39200 and it stays on permanently. What reasons around that millage would it turn on for and how do you turn the light off?

It's just a 7500 mile counter to alert you for an oil and filter change. It flashes initially and then goes on solid when you hit 7500 miles.
You can turn it off through a particlar combination of the trip odometer "select" and "reset" buttons. Check your owners manual or search the foru for the exact instructions.

Did you get your oil changed at the dealership? If so, they probably have been resetting it for you.
Just hold down the reset and select buttons then turn on the car. Hold down until the light goes out.
