Where to buy 99 TL Tranny
Should i get a used one or have mine rebuilt? Its a 4 speed Auto. The weird thing is my car shifts fine with the tip tronic but in auto im in third gear at 15 mph and it slips inbetween gears but not when gear is engaged. Any sugestions?

the clutch packs get worn out on our cars-
the 4 speed is a very reliable unit- get it rebuilt at any name braAAnd type shop and ask how many of these tiptronics they have personally done

Well I wouldn't say that the 1999 transmission is very reliable. It's just that it's more reliable than the original 5-speed installed in the 2000-2003 TLs.
Overall the 1999 transmission have "worse than average" reliability.
I agree that a rebuilt is generally a better option than a used transmission. You never know what you're getting with a used transmission. Weigh the cost differences along with warranty coverage.

When I had transmission issue I had it rebuilt. I chose a local place just in case of any issue. An expensive option fro the peace of mind but I found two places that had the transmission for around $1600 or less professionally rebuilt. The two place where Coleman Taylor Transmission and finally Phoenix Hard Parts. Good luck on your transmission.
