What's this sticking out of my glove compartment?

Can somebody tells me what this is please? I plan to take off my glove box and fix whatever it is, but I just want to make sure something it's easily fixable not something that requires detailed instructions.

Crap, sorry about the big picture. And since I don't have more than 5 post, the website won't let me edit my original post. Truly sorry about this, guys.

Thats the cover for the cabin filters, that wasn't installed correctly.
Simply open the glove box and remove both retaining clips and damper to gain access then just clip it back on from the top then bottom.

see our section `Official DIY thread list`- 3rd item down main list, its 2 threads contain links to every project we know how to do!
cabin air filter will take you thru each step
its not as bad as it sounds, just pop off a few hinge clips and screws- you are there

acura says to replace these filters (comes with the needed 2 in package) every year, more if dusty-construction, pollen areas
You can buy aftermarket filters with antifungal- anti smell- anti authority stuff added to filter

Thank you so much, guys! I went ahead and bought the cabin air filter so I could kill two birds with one stone. It turns out whoever switched the cabin filter before did a pretty crappy job and threw away the part that you weren't supposed to throw away and also forgot to put the latch that prevents the glove box from free falling. Thanks to the links and assistant is as provided, I was able to put it back correctly, but without the peace that the guy threw away. I guess I'll have to go to a junkyard some day and pick that piece up and do the whole thing all over again. Thanks once again!

do you mean the cover over the filters? that gets installed sideways after first filter replacement
You can make one out of cardboard and stick in place
doesn't have to fit perfect- the OE one didn't!

Before anything, thanks for all your help. I've noticed that you've responded to a lot of my questions and I really appreciate it.

I tried out the cardboard because I read about it in another thread, but the cardboard never stood on its own. It always kept falling down . Is that piece really necessary? It seems that the black piece that I have posted a picture of in the original post is doing a good job of holding up on its own.

you want the cardboard over the filters to preserve airflow design rates- and hold them in place
some gorilla tape- duct/duck tape works well to hold it in place
some small area of non coverage is not an issue

the original plastic cover had to be removed/cut-broken off from attachment tabs and turned 90 degrees to sideways position- then a screw hole matched up on one end- with plastic feet tabs at other when you re-install (iirc- its way past time to replace again!)

I would just order the part online...costs a bit, but less headache down the line.
