weird rpm issue
so a few weeks ago I was merging onto a highway and my tranny slipped at around 6k rpms between 1st and second (i was pulling out of a shopping center with no one around). havent really gotten on the throttle too much since, however today i got to like 6k and noticed i didnt feel the strong vtec kick until about 5.5k, and even then it wasnt as strong as it usually is. Tried it once or twice more, and the same thing happened, vtec wasnt kicking right at 5k like it normally does. Now i do have a leak between my jpipe and cat that im waiting on my mechanic to fix next week, but I would just like to get some opinions on what this could be related to. Would this have anything to do with my egr needing to be cleaned? I know the exhaust leak causes a skew in the air/fuel ratio but would that cause anything like what im noticing? if anyone has any idea what this could be a result of please let me know! Thanks

Tranny Slip means 1 thing = Tranny on its way Out... The Trans must never EVER Slip under normal Driving...
The funny thing is you "Feel" the "VTEC KICK"...
I have never EVER Noticed anything beyond a change in Sound once the "VTEC" Kicked In, Even with Full-Bolt Ons the only thing I notice is SOUND and the Revs start to climb up a little fast other than that.. Nothing...
The "Kick-In" is way more Pronounced on 4cyls than in V6s...

It's been some time ago, maybe 5 or 6 years... but I had attempted a fast "burn-out". My experience was of the rpm's revving up over 6k, and the car not going any faster.
The car felt as though it was in neutral. Thinking the tranny was slipping, I inquired with the dealer's service dept. and was told that it was a limiter which governed the rpm for protecting the engine/drivetrain.
I'm a bit too old for burnouts, but I have not had any problems to date with about 170k on the original tranny. I don't use the sport shift or drag any more, not wanting to risk the consequences. Married with children, house, and dog....... ha...ha !

Actually the 6MT revs like 1k more at Highway if Im correct? fsstyms1 should Chime in for that Info!
But in the End 6MT is to Gain Acceleration not to get MPGs, Also to get rid of our POS 5AT....

hm... yeah i thought i saw somewhere it revs higher but i didnt get how that worked. fsstyms1 seems to be the tranny swap guru, i should ask his input. wouldnt mind a bit more acceleration if it doesnt kill the mpgs (as well as my wallet)

Yes, it does rev near 1k higher. MPG is about the same due mostly to the more efficient trans with less drive train loss and the ability to change gears sooner and hold gears.

Start with the small things, if your tranny is slipping you would know it. If you rule that out, high rpm misfire...start with plugs, if you replace them make sure to gap them correctly....If not good luck, I have a 6 Speed, don't experience those problems. Hopefully its not your tranny man!

DO NOT gap ngk iridium plugs!!
standard tool screws them up
if one or more are not `level`/same as each other, when removed from protective carrier- return it to store as its been dropped or otherwise damaged
